ABOUT GOOD AND EVIL.
Characters: the Princess, the Nurse, the King, the Prince, the
Aunt of Bad Weather, the Queen of Spades, the Witch.
Scene I
The
Princess: My Nurse, may I go to the
forest?
The
Nurse: No, you may not. The cruel
tales are very angry and terrible. The head of this kingdom is the Queen of
Spades. She doesn`t like good children.
The
Princess: I don`t believe you. I know
that all the tales are good and merry.
The
Nurse: Oh, no! there are only cruel
people in this kingdom. (She is crying)…
The
King: Why is the Princess crying?
The
Nurse: She want to go to the forest
of the cruel tales!
The
King (angrily): You must take it away
from your head!
(to
the Nurse) Now I am busy and I go away, but you must look after the Princess.
(The
Nurse is sleeping. The Princess goes to the forest)
The
Witch: Oh, my beautiful Princess, go
to our woods. There are many fruit-tress and flowers there. I`ll give you
sweets and apples.
The
Princess: Help me! Help me!

The
King: Who can help us in this
trouble? Who can free her? My servant! Come here! Write down: “If a man
saves the Princess he`ll get half of my kingdom and the Princess.”
Scene II
The
King: Many young people have tried to
save my daughter, but they have failed. Who can really save her?
The
Prince from the neighboring kingdom:
(comes into the palace) I can save the Princess, and I`ll bring her here. So
I`ll go and try to find her.
The
King: Wait a minute! I know that the
Queen of Spades is invisible, because is a magic apple in her garden. If you
find the apple, she will not use her magic. But the keys from that garden are
kept. The Queen of Spades is living in the thick forest. Now you must go! I
wish you good luck!
Scene III
The
Witch: I`ve been working hard today.
The Queen of Spades will be glad. Now I must write her a telegram. Who can give
it to her? Oh, my friend Goblin can do it. (On the telephone). My dear Goblin,
come up to me, please!
The
Goblin: My best wishes to you! Today
is the 8th of March.
The
Witch: Thanks. I have baked pies
today. Take and eat!
The
Goblin: I see that you have a guest.
The
Witch: Yes, I have.
The
Goblin: Is this the Princess from the
neighbouring kingdom?
The
Witch: Yes, she is. I have written
the telegram to the Queen of Spades. Give it to her. She`ll be very glad.
The
Goblin: All right. I`ll do it. I have
nothing to do today. (goes away)
The
Witch: I`m bored! I`ll call the Aunt
of Bad Weather for tea. (On the telephone). The Aunt of Bad Weather, will you
come for tea?
The
Witch (to the Aunt of Bad Weather):
Come in! Sit down, please. Let`s have tea with pies and chatter.
The
Aunt of Bad Weather: I like to chatter,
but I have no time. I have to bring bad weather: wind, rain, snow.
The
Witch: That`s right. (Looking out of
the window) The Prince is coming here. You must go away with the Princess to
the castle of the Queen of Spades!
Scene IV
The
Prince: Oh, the Witch, where is the
Princess?
The
Witch: There is no Princess in my
house!
The
Prince: I know that she is here. Give
me the keys from the garden of the Queen of Spades!
The
Witch: I have no keys. I don`t know
your princess, I haven`t even seen her!
The
Prince (angrily): You don`t want to
give me the princess, do you? I`ll kill you!
The
Witch: Don`t kill me! I`ll do
everything for you.
The
Prince: Give me the keys and tell me
the way to the garden!
The
Witch: Take the keys and go away!
(Starts crying) I must warn the Queen of Spades!
Scene V
The
Witch: Oh, the Queen of Spades!
Something terrible has happened to us! The Prince has taken away the keys from
your garden and now he is looking for the magic apple!
The
Queen of Spades (in anger): How could
it happen?
The
Witch: The Prince came here to save
the Princess. He might killed me!
The
Queen of Spades: We must stop the
enemy! Quick! Quick!
The
Prince: You are late! (One can see
the apple in his hands)
Scene VI
The
King: Prince, you are very brave! You
have saved my daughter! Be happy!
The End.
