The
Seagull
Tim’s grandfather
lives at the seaside near Portsmouth. Tim often visits him. In their last
school holidays he went there with Mike. They stayed for a week. The first days
were sunny and the boys went swimming and fishing. After that they had rainy
weather but it was still good fun. They spent nearly all the time on the beach.
On Friday night there
was a terrible storm in Southern England. The next morning the boys had a quick
breakfast and ran to the beach. It was still very windy and the sky was grey.
There were lots of bottles and boxes on the beach.
Suddenly Mike saw
something in the water behind the rocks. It was an old boat. The boys could
still read the name on it: Seagull. The boat was full of stones and sand
and very heavy. So they couldn’t pick it up. At that moment somebody spoke
behind them: “Oh, that’s the Seagull.”
“I know that boat”, the old man said. “It was on this
beach many years ago. It disappeared on a stormy night like last night.”
