In addition, research suggests sleep allows your brain to process and store memories from your waking hours. Although there is little information on exactly why the body needs sleep, there is much research that shows the negative effects of failing to get enough sleep. The biggest negative effect for teens seems to be a decrease in mental sharpness and a lack of motivation to engage in thinking activities.
