MANAGEMENT
Many different terms are used for manager,
including director, adminstrator and president. The term manager is used more
often in profit - asking enterprises and the others are used in non - profit -
making enterprises Effective managing is the concern оr the corporate president, the hospital
administrator or the government first-line supervisor.
A manager directly supervises people in an
organization and is responsible for making and carrying out decisions that will
enable his employees to make their best contributions to the objectives of the
enterprise. There are different kinds of managers - a team manager, a
domineering manager and a survival manager.
A manager must have some necessary
qualities and practical skills - intelligence, a good knowledge of business,
good professional qualifications, communication skills, an ability to make
decisions. The three key types of skills for a manager are technical, human and
conceptual. Technical skills reflect a proficiency in a specialized field, such
as in accounting, finance, engineering or computer science. Human skills show
how well a manager can understand and motivate his employees. Conceptual skills
enable a manager to visualize his unit as part of the indastry or community and
take actions that advance the goals of the organization.
The skill of management is to read the
situation and achieve the best results with available resources. The manager
must rely on the staff, he should establish the environment in which his
employees can accomplish selected aims efficiently.
Management is the art of getting things
done through people. At one time managers were called bosses and their job was
to tell people what to do.
Modern managers are prepared to guide and
coach their employees. They prefer team - work and cooperation to discipline
and ordering. Many managers today believe that they are a part of a team and
enjoy the new responsibility and flexibility that come with more open and
casual systems.
