Read about British holidays and guess what holidays are described. Write them.
1.
On this day people celebrate romantic love. They send cards to the people they
love, give them flowers or chocolates. People don’t usually write their names
on a card and you don’t know who it is from.
2.
This is a public holiday in Britain. People paint eggs in bright colours and
give them to each other as a present. They often hide these eggs or chocolate
eggs for little children to find.
3.
It is a special night, an exciting and funny holiday. There are pumpkins on the
windows. They look like faces. Children dress up as witches and ghosts. They
have parties and play tricks on people. In the evening children go from house
to house and say “Trick or treat!” The grown-ups give them some fruit, sweets,
chocolate or money.
4.
This is the main public holiday in Britain, when people spend time at home with
their families, eat special food. This is a Christian festival to remember the
birth of Jesus Christ. People decorate their houses and send cards to their
friends and relatives. Children hang stockings at the fireplace or near their
beds for Santa Claus to put presents in. In churches people sing carols.
5.
This day is not such an important holiday in England as Christmas. Many people
have parties. At midnight they listen to the chimes of Big Ben, drink a toast
and sing Auld Lang Syne.
