Т: Did you like it? He loved his country dearly. (Учащиеся слушают стих-е в записи)
.
MY HEART'S IN THE HIGHLANDS
My heart's in the
Highlands, my heart is not here, My heart's in the Highlands a-chasing the deer, A-chasing the wild deer and following the roe My
heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go!
Farewell to the Highlands,
farewell to the North, The birthplace of valour, the country of worth!
Wherever I wander, wherever I rove, The hills of the
Highlands for ever I love. Farewell
to the mountains high cover'd with snow,
Farewell to the straths and green valleys
below,
Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging
woods,
Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring
floods!
T: Children, do you like this poem?
It was written by R. Burns. I think you
don't know
much about him. Let's listen some main facts of his biography. P5: Robert
Burns, Scottish poet was born in Alloway, Scotland on the 25 of
January, 1759. He
was the eldest of seven children born to William Burns. P6: His father was
a poor farmer, but he wanted to give his children the best
Education. He was a clever
man and had a shelf with books in his poor
house.
P7: In 1765 Robert was sent to school, but his teacher soon got another job
and
left. John Murdoch was his
second teacher. He was very clever and gave his
pupils a good knowledge of
English. They read Shakespeare, Milton and
other most
important writers of the 16th - 18th
centuries. P8: In 1772 Robert had to
begin working on the farm. In 1773 Robert was - 14.
He wrote his first poem:
"Handsome Nell". It was written for a girl who
worked in
the field with
him.
P9: In February 1784 Robert's father died and Robert became the head of the
family.
In 1784, at a dancing party, Robert Burns met the "beauty of the
village" — Jean Armour,
the daughter of a rich man. It was "love at first
sight".
In 1786 he married Jean Аrmour.
T: Now listen to his poem "A Red, Red Rose" «Любовь»
(учащиеся слушают crnux-e в
записи)
О ту Luve's like a red, red rose, Любовь, как роза,
роза красная,
That's newly sprung in June; Цветет в моем саду.
0 my Luve's like the melodie Любовь моя — как песенка,
That's
sweetly play'd in tune.— С которой в путь иду.
As fair
art thou, my bonie lass, Сильнее красоты твоей
So deep
in luve am I; Моя любовь одна.
And I
will luve thee still, my Dear, Она с тобой, пока моря
Till a' the seas
gang dry.— He высохнут до дна.
Till a' the seas gang
dry, my Dear, He высохнут моря, мой друг,
And the rocks melt
wi' the sun: He
рушится гранит,
1 will luve thee still, my Dear, He остановится песок,
While the sands o' life shall run.— А он, как жизнь, бежит...
And fare thee weel, my only Luve! Будь счастлива, моя любовь,
And fare thee weel, a while! Прощай и не грусти.
And I will come again, my Luve, Вернусь к
тебе, хоть целый свет
Tho' it were ten
thousand mile! — Пришлось
бы мне пройти!
P10: In 1795 he fell seriously ill. On the 21st of
July, being 37 years old, Bums
died of
heart
disease.
T: But the name of Robert Burns is still alive. For Scotsmen
Robert Burns is a
symbol of national pride.
Robert Burns wrote a great number of songs,
poems and ballads which are
translated into all languages. It is difficult to
translate Burns' poems into Russian. But
thanks to Marshak's translations
we have come to know and love Robert
Burns.
Let's
recollect the most important dates of his biography. Task:
Match the dates with the facts of Robert Burns' life.
1.1759 a) Robert was sent to school, but his school days did not
last long as their
teacher left
the school. Burns' father employed a tutor for his sons so they got a
good education.

the 25th of January.
3.1772

Key: l.b; 2.a; 3.d; 4.c; 5.f; 6.e; 7.d
T: I've got some more facts of Robert Burns'
biography, but I'm not sure if
they are true or false. Would
you help me? Say if the facts are true or
false. If they are false,
correct them.
1. At 13 he worked in the field as much as, grown-ups. (It's
true.)
2. In 1784 his father died and he became the
head of the family. (It's true.)
3. Robert fell in love with Jean Armour as
she was the most beautiful girl in the village. (It's true.)
4. Jean Armour's parents wanted Jean to marry
Robert Burns. (It's false. They didn't want Jean to marry Robert Bums, because
he was poor.)
5. In 1788 Robert and Jean got married. (It's
tme.)
T: Our
lesson is coming to the end. Let's finish it with the Scottish national song
"Auld Lang Syne" composed by Robert Burns. It is often sung at the
parties and meetings of friends all over the world. Today we shall honour the
memory of the great poet of Scotland by singing his song. (Ученики исполняют песню)
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance
be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne!
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We '11
tak a cup о' kindness yet
For auld lang syne.
T:
Our lesson is over. Thank you for taking an active part in it. Good-bye!
