LEARN ENGLISH
(A
team game)
The
game is based on the textbook “Our English” (Form 6) by L. Byrkun.
Objectives:
-
to
help pupils monitor their own progress, make them feel they have achieved a lot
and once more recycle the language covered;
-
to
help the teacher monitor pupils’ progress and check that 6 form language areas
have been learnt and remembered;
-
to
develop team workers’ skills;
-
to
mould friendly disposition and personal responsibility;
-
to
awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.
Things
required: cards with tasks, dictionaries, pens to write with,
English alphabet.
Recommendations:
The
class is divided into three teams: “Reds”, “Greens”, and “Yellows”. They choose
their leaders to coordinate their work and report to the jury. The members of
each team sit at the table, and they are dressed in clothes of their colour.
Each team is given a dictionary, English alphabet, a pen to do the tasks.
The
tasks are of three types: vocabulary tasks, speaking tasks, and role-plays.
Speaking tasks and role-plays are prepared as homework. The teams prepare
presentations for their monologues and proper clothes and things for
role-playing.
Procedure:

Teacher’s opening remarks
The
teacher tells the objectives and rules of the game, introduces the jury.
II.
Team greetings (2points)
The
leader introduces himself: his name, age, favourite subjects, and hobbies. Then
each member tells personal information.

the knife and the soup spoon on the right of the plate and the fork on the
left. On the left of each guest you put a small plate for bread and on the
right – a glass. Don’t forget to put out the table napkins for each guest.

world’s greatest international sports games are the Olympic Games. The Olympic
idea means friendship and cooperation among the people of the world. The
Olympic emblem is five rings: blue, yellow, black, green and red. The original
Olympic Games began in ancient Greece in 776 BC. It was a great athletic
festival including competitions in five kinds of sports: running, long jumps,
throwing of discus and javelin, and wrestling. The games were for men only. The
first modern Olympic Games took place in Athens in 1896.

cultural and scientific centre. There are many museums, monuments, parks in
Kyiv.

Summing up
The
jury counts the points of each team and announces the results. The teacher sums
up the game.
