Our capital Astana

Astana is a pride of Kazakhs and all people of Kazakhstan. Astana is a symbol of greatness of new Kazakhstan.

The founder and the main architect of Astana by right is our President — Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev. Important and moreover, the resolute initiative regarding carrying over of the capital of our country from Almaty to Akmola also was shown by Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev. Making of such wise and fatal decision, he has shown himself as the provident, subtle and far-sighted statesman.

The young capital — a symbol of creation, creativity and progress of Kazakhstan. The modern capital of Kazakhstan grows and changes, becomes more and more attractive for inhabitants of Kazakhstan and foreign visitors. Modern architectural style in which the best traditions of European and east cultures intertwine, fully reflect the shape of new capital as the centre of economy, policy and culture.

Our capital Astana located at the heart of Saryarka, in the centre of the Euroasian space. Astana surprises all of us, but especially foreigners by its prompt and powerful rate of building, the unique beauty, variety of modern architecture.

The excellent architectural ensemble of Astana attracts the attention of many people all over the world. Many beautiful, sound and many-storeyed apartment houses, office buildings, comfortable sport complexes and other necessary objects people’s life are being constructed in Astana.

Astana became the pride of new Kazakhstan, a symbol of the national idea statement and country unification. The future of Kazakhstan inseparably connected with the future of Astana, which recently was known as «new capital», and now is an integral part of a new image of Kazakhstan and the country of XXI century.

HISTORY OF ASTANA

The history of Astana began in the year 1830. Astana was founded in 1830 on the bank of the Esil River by Colonel Phyodor Kuzmich Shubin as a fortress.

In 1939 was formed Akmola region and Akmola became the center of this region.

In 1954 in Akmola region the development of virgin and unused lands began. In honour of this event the town of Akmola was renamed in Tselinograd in 1961.

In 1994 Tselinograd was renamed in Akmola again.

In 1997 by Decree of President of Kazakhstan Akmola became the capital of our country.

In 1998 Akmola was renamed un Astana.
