Speaking in elementary school: difficult or not?
Insufficient formation of communication skills, low degree of
activity in communication with a child with intellectual disabilities have a
negative impact on his mental and personal development, so it is very important
to include the child in the correctional and developmental process for the
formation of communication skills, as through communication the child learns
himself and the world. This is an extremely urgent problem, as the degree of
formation of these skills affects the process of socialization and development
of the individual as a whole. In this article we will consider Speaking in
primary school: is it difficult or not?
From a scientific point of view, scientists have defined Dialogic
speech as a communicative function of language, as a natural form of language
communication and a classical form of speech communication. In the dialogue,
there is a conversation between the interlocutors (one says the other listens,
then the other answers), while the interlocutors know what is at stake.
Of particular importance in the speech development of the younger
student is the dialogue of peers, as in conversation with peers, children
really feel equal, free, relaxed. When talking to children focus on the
characteristics of the partner, take into account its capabilities (often
limited), so arbitrarily build your statement using contextual speech 2, p. 53. Practice has shown that
children do not know how to build a dialogue, they interrupt the interlocutor,
insist on their opinion, do not tolerate criticism, show aggression to the
interlocutor. Therefore, children need to be taught dialogue with peers, there
is inappropriate educational motivation, direct instructions and strict
regulation. This is a new area in pedagogic cooperation and self-development.
Learning to dialogue is through voice, word and language games [4, p. 135].
Vocabulary primary school children quickly filled up by: the number
of words a child is increased from 4 thousand to 75 thousand to 10-11 years,
absorbed new meanings of already known words 1, p. 19).
Active and passive first-grader dictionary contains from 2.5-3 to
7-8 thousand words. Researchers of the children's dictionary note that it has words
of all grammatical categories, but specific nouns and verbs prevail . This is
explained by the fact that the thinking of primary school students
specifically. It is always associated with certain phenomena and actions.
Abstract thinking is still poorly developed, so abstract nouns in the
first-grader's dictionary make up 1-2%. Proper names include names of people,
names of animals, names of cities, rivers, lakes, countries. Children use
different categories of nouns can be caused by the environment, the interests
of the children6.
Among the nouns are dominated by the names of specific objects,
animals, insects, birds, degree of kinship, words denoting different
professions, seasons, plant names, etc..
As the researchers note, the whole life of children is associated
with movement and play, so in the speech of 7 -, 8-year-old students are often
verbs, and they are very diverse in lexical terms: it is the designation of
specific actions, verbs of movement, verbs denoting different positions in
space, the state of man and nature, etc. the most common are verbs such as to
be (in the meaning to be), say, say, to become, go, call, see, give, want and
others. a Feature of the use of verbs in the speech of younger students is the
frequent repetition of the same words. This is observed in the retelling of
fairy tales, stories, in the transmission of someone else's speech. Therefore,
from the first days of the child's education at school there is a problem for
the teacher: to teach children to use synonymous words-verbs.
The next characteristic of 7-8-year-old children is a small number
of adjectives. According to V. p. Vakhterov, the number of children aged 4 to 8
years is 4.3%. Most often, children use qualitative adjectives denoting the
value (large, small), color (black, white, blue), external and internal
properties of the object or person (beautiful, thick, sweet, bad, terrible),
qualities perceived by the senses, possessive adjectives. The number of
relative adjectives in the speech of younger students is small, they are often
replaced by nouns in the genitive case. For example, instead of combining a
leather briefcase, children often say a leather briefcase. This is explained by
the fact that the process of increasing the adjectives does not keep up with the
process of development of children's thought, so the child resorts to the use
of nouns, with which he tries to Express certain relationships, signs
Adverbs in the language of primary school students are even less
common, and they are monotonous. This is mainly adverbial adverbs of time,
place, and manner (about 3-4%) 8,p. 68).
The vocabulary of primary school students is different from the
vocabulary of high school students. Children do not immediately learn the
lexical meaning of many words. Among the features of the dictionary of primary
school students can be identified:
- insufficient knowledge of verb synonyms,
-a relatively small vocabulary,
- inaccuracy of the use of words in speech,
-problems in the semantics of polysemantic words,
-mismatch between words and concepts,
- difficulties in mastering abstract vocabulary.
Due to the poverty of the dictionary for younger students are
characterized by frequent repetitions, inaccurate use of words in speech. But
even with their proper use, the meaning of the words in the minds of students
are everyday ideas: "fly-move at high altitude above the ground",
" the hero - a brave and brave people working in the Ministry of emergency
situations, they save people who are in trouble." In the process of
studying concepts, students begin to think abstractly [5].
Problems in children arise in the assimilation of polysemous words.
In the minds of schoolchildren, they are usually represented by one specific
value. The phrase "hold the right side" first graders perceive
literally: "hold hands on the right side, the railing." It is easier
for students to explain the semantics of a new word than a familiar one.
If a polysemous word acts as a term, it will take a long time for
children to fill it with new content. Work on this kind of vocabulary can help
to solve one of the problems of learning - to develop a child's creative,
problem thinking. In primary school, students actively replenish their
vocabulary, have an increased interest in the development of the language. At this
stage, it is necessary to develop in the child such qualities of speech as
accuracy and consistency. "The problem tasks, made on the lexical material
is based on the use of means of language expression, such as the phenomena of
polysemy, homonymy, synonymy, antonymy, effectively influencing the development
of bases of problematic way of thinking in primary school children",
develop their ability to correctly use the word in proper context and
contribute to the elimination of speech errors 10, p. 92.
So, one of the main indicators of mental and speech development of
the student is the wealth of his vocabulary, the ability to correctly,
coherently and emotionally Express their thoughts. The richer the active
vocabulary of the student, the more meaningful and colorful his oral and
written speech. To achieve fluency, it is necessary to enrich the vocabulary
during the training.
The best source of enrichment of the dictionary - live
communication, speech, oral and written literature: the word in the text always
seems to be highlighted semantically and artistically.
Correctional work on the formation of communicative activities of
children should also include areas for work with parents and teachers: lecture
and educational work, practical training, psychological and pedagogical
assistance. It is close and emotionally significant for the child people in the
first place can help in the development of communication skills, create a
positive communicative space.
