You are going to give a talk about learning English. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes (10-12 sentences). 

Remember to say: 

● how long you have been learning English;

● why most Russian students learn English at school;

● what you use English out of the classroom for.

·         what  your  attitude  to learning English is. 

You have to talk continuously.

 I want  to  talk about learning English .

Learning English has become quite popular nowadays. This language is considered as a major international language.  

As far as I remember, I’ve been learning English for over 7 years. 

I think that Russians study English at school because English is the international language.

If you speak English you can talk to people from different countries. Most international companies do their daily business using English. Nowadays, there are many international students exchange programs which allow Russians to learn different subjects abroad.  

Personally, I use English in my travels.

When our family goes abroad for vacation we speak English with the locals. Also, I like watching English movies in English. Sometimes Russian translations are not very good. I like to listen to the original actors' voices. Of course, I correspond with my pen friends  from the  USA regularly in English. They don’t speak Russian, soEnglish is the only language that we all can use. 

All in all, I  can say that everyone should be able to speak at least one foreign language nowadays, and there is no doubt that English is of the greatest importance in different spheres of life.

Student: I guess that I’ve chosen English as an exam this year because I will need it in the future. English is the major international language. If you speak English, you will be able to communicate in many countries. I also will need it for my future work as a lawyer in an international company.

Electronic assistant: What other foreign language or languages would you like to speak?
Student:
 Frankly speaking, I'd like to speak Japanese fluently. In fact, I’ve already started learning it.

Electronic assistant: What would you recommend to students who want to improvetheir English?
Student: As for improving English, my first recommendation is to watch movies. I’ve seen many movies in English and feel that my English has improved. I read the script first and then watch the movie a few times till I understand it thoroughly. Reading is good too. You learn a lot of new words. If a student can find a Native English Speaking friend who he can talk to on Skype, he will be able to quickly improve his speaking skills.

  I  want  to  talk about jobs.

Since our work takes up the biggest portion of our life, choosing a job is a very important decision. 

I think that managers and DJs are popular among boys. As for girls, I guess makeup stylists. 

As far as I remember, I wanted to be an  interpreter. I dreamed about travelling  around the world and visiting different countries. I like learning about new nations and cultures. I think it’s very interesting. I also dreamed to be a doctor. I wanted to help people and cure them from different diseases. 

I guess my parents can help me to make my career choice. They have always helped me to make important decisions in my life. They are far more experienced than I am, so I can trust their advice. They  understand things that I haven't experienced yet. They told me that their parents helped them to make their vocation decisions and they are pretty happy with the results.

As for my attitude to a freelance job, it is not quite definite. On the one hand, a freelancer has more flexible working hours but, on the other hand, only those who have a lot of full time work experience can manage this kind of employment.

As for me, I would like to have a real full time job in future. 

That’s all I wanted to say.

Having a hobby is a very important part of our life. 

I think that hobbies help people (to) relax. It’s important for a person to spend time doing something he or she really likes for free. 

Some of my friends collect things. Some collect stamps, some coins and some, toy soldiers. But the most popular hobbies are computer games and sports. 

As for me  there are many things I would like to deal with. I like reading and watching good films. I am extremely fond of dancing, painting and art. I like beauty of nature, communication and travelling.I’m interested inforeign languages.

I  enjoy  to  meet and  communicate  with  people  whose  hobby  is  learning  languages.  We have the  same  interests.

I think that all the  hobbies are exciting!

That’s all I wanted to say  about  hobbies.

3. Грамматика

1).Пассивный залог (страдательный залог)- показывает, что лицо или предмет не сам совершает действие, а над ним совершают действие.

Пример: The house was bought- Дом купили (дом был куплен).

Пассивный залог образуется при помощи to be в нужной форме и 3 формы глагола.

2)Модальные глаголы (modal verbs)

В английском языке глаголы can, may, must, oughtto, should, need , tohaveto, tobeto относятся к группе так называемых модальных глаголов. Модальные глаголы не употребляются самостоятельно, а только в сочетании с инфинитивом, образуя составное глагольное сказуемое.

Nowadays the Internet has become really popular. We can’t live without it now.

 Personally, I can’t imagine modern life without the Internet. We buy train tickets through the Internet. We communicate with each other by the Internet, I mean Skype and different messengers like WhatsApp orViber. A lot of people watch Internet Television. It’s in every sphere of our life. 

As for me, I use Skype to talk with my friends and relatives. I correspond with my friends and watch different movies on-line. My friends use it the same way. Some of them also play computer games and have on-line battles. 

The Internet helps me a lot with my studies. I find there a plenty of useful information I need for my lessons. I ask questions about different school subjects on-line. There are people on the Internet who can help you with many different educational questions.

I am not addictive, but I cannot imagine my life without the Internet. It offers me great opportunities and I try to use the best of them

 So, the Internet is very useful in modern life.

Imagine that you are preparing a project with your friend. You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then be ready to read it out aloud. You will not have more than 1.5 minutes to read it. 

The first maps were drawn by explorers to help them find their way home and show people where they had been. The maps showed the shape of the land, distances between places and special features such as caves and old trees. Nowadays, maps show the towns and villages, and the roads, railways, rivers and mountains. Symbols are used to show all the different things on a map and there is a key to explain what the symbols stand for. 

Over the centuries, people explored most of the Earth and put together the map of the world we use today. Maps of the world or large areas are often either “political” or “physical”. The political map shows territorial borders. The purpose of the physical map is to show features of geography such as mountains, soil type or land use including roads, railroads and buildings.

Interviewer: What part of Russia do you live in? What’s the weather like in summer there?
Student: I live  in  the   north-west  of  Russia. This is Leningrad  region. The weather is normally  warm in summer. It often rains a lot.

Interviewer: What else would you like our listeners to know about your region?
Student: Leningrad  region is an industrial area with lots of big plants and factories. At the same time, it is a culturally developed region. There are many theatres and museums, educational and research institutions here.

Interviewer: What can you tell us about your family?
Student: My family is not very big. It consists of four persons: my mother, my father, my elder brother and me. We get along well with each other.

Interviewer: How did you use to spend your summer holidays when you were seven?
Student: When I was seven, my family and I used to go to the mountains and forests for active holidays. We lived in tents, went river rafting. We were really into extreme things!

Interviewer: How would you like to spend your summer holidays in 10 years?
Student: I think nothing will drastically change in the way I spend my summer holidays in 10 years. I will stick to active holidays, and probably, I will add some other forms of activities such as parachuting or base jumping.

4.Монологическаяречь

Hi there! Have you received the pictures I’ve sent you by e-mail? I suppose they are perfect for our project “Life without gadgets”.

1)      In pic 1 there is my mum in her student years. It’s obvious 1)there WERE NO gadgets at that time. However, judging by the number of people in the library, 2)reading was quite popular in those days. As for pic 2, there is my cousin Mary 1) who can’t imagine her life WITHOUT gadgets as she 2) belongs to a digital-savvy generation.

2)     No doubt the photos are different. Pic 1 illustrates a gadget-free environment where readers had to use traditional paper books. Concerning pic 2, my cousin can read a book at home as she has got an e-book.

3)     As for pros and cons, I believe the only advantage of a paper book is that you can leave some remarks while reading.  Its disadvantage is a necessity to go to the library every time you need it. As for the advantage of e-readers, it’s their ability to store as many books as you need. However, they can crash suddenly when you forget to charge them in time.

4)     I’m sure these photos illustrate our project perfectly. On the one hand, pic.1 proves that life without gadgets can be quite full and active. My mum thinks so. On the other hand, pic.2 shows that life WITHOUT gadgets is next to impossible for generation Z.

5)     As I belong to a younger generation, I would like to live in a technological society and use modern gadgets as they make our life much easier and more comfortable.

It is interested in the things that happen on the Earth like tides, winds, and earthquakes. A person who is an expert in geography is a geographer. A geographer tries to understand the world and the things that are in it, how they started and how they have changed. Geographers need to know a lot about maps because maps are very important for understanding geography. Geography is divided into two main parts called physical geography and human geography. Physical geography studies the natural environment and human geography studies the human environment. Human geography studies include things such as the population in a country, a country’s economy and so on.

Imagine that you are doing a project «Weekends in the summertime» together with your friend. You have found some illustrations and want to share the news. Leave a voice message to your friend. In 2.5 minutes be ready to:

·         give a brief description of the photos, justifying the choice of the photos for the project;

·         say in what way the pictures are different, justifying the choice of the photos for the project;

·         mention the advantages and disadvantages (1–2) of the two ways of spending weekends in summer;

·         express your opinion on the subject of the project – whether you would like to have a summer weekend hiking in the mountains and why.

You will speak for not more than 3 minutes (12–15 sentences). You have to talk continuously.

Hi there! Have you seen the photos I’ve posted on Instagram? Hope they are perfect for our project “Weekends in the summertime”. Let me explain my choice.

In photo 1 there is a family sunbathing at the seaside. They are having a good time and a lot of fun looking relaxed and happy. Photo 2 shows two people enjoying the sunset from the top of a mountain. They seem to be admiring the panoramic view.

Undoubtedly, the photos have some differences in terms of summer weekend ideas. One noticeable difference lies in the places where the people are spending their summer weekend. In photo 1 there is a coastal environment, whereas photo 2 illustrates a mountainous area. Besides, the summer activities presented in the photos differ: lying in the sun compared to hiking in the mountains.

An obvious advantage of going to the beach for the weekend is a great way to relax as it looks like a natural spa treatment. On the other hand, sunshine increases the risk of sunstroke and sunburn.

When it comes to benefits of hiking in the mountains at the weekend, it is a fantastic workout improving mental health and reducing stress. However, it looks dangerous and challenging as there are risks in the wild. Also, hiking requires some technical skills and proper equipment which is heavy to carry, especially uphill.

As far as I’m concerned, a perfect idea of a summer weekend would be hiking across stunning mountain landscapes as I’ve always looked for adventure and my love for hiking tours has always been with me since my early childhood.

Конструкция used to do smth

Конструкция used to в английском языке используется, чтобы рассказать о действии, которое происходило или часто повторялось в прошлом, но на данный момент уже не происходит. При переводе предложений на русский язык обычно добавляют слово «раньше» или «бывало».

I used to have an MP3 player. Now I just listen to music online. — У меня раньше был MP3-плеер. Теперь я просто слушаю музыку онлайн.

С помощью конструкции used to мы рассказываем о привычках, которые были в прошлом.

Tony used to drink much coffee. — Тони раньше пил много кофе.

Для описания состояний в прошлом.

Gaby used to be overweight. But now she looks fit. — Раньше у Гэби был лишний вес. Но сейчас она выглядит подтянуто.

Глагол would

Глагол would, как и конструкция used to, выражает повторяющееся действие в прошлом. Однако would употребляется только в том случае, когда есть привязка к какому-то конкретному времени.

Every time Sarah came, we would play X-box for hours. — Каждый раз, когда приходила Сара, мы часами играли в X-box.

Разница между used to и would заключается еще и в том, что would не используется, если речь идет о привычках или о состоянии в прошлом.

Конструкции to be used to и to get used to

Конструкция be used to описывает привычку, которая уже сформировалась, а get used to — процесс приобретения привычки. После конструкций be used to и get used to используется глагол с окончанием -ing, существительное или местоимение.

They are used to sleeping outdoors. — Они привыкли спать на улице.

I find it hard to get used to new conditions. — Мне трудно привыкать к новым условиям.
Привычка сформироваласьиспользуем be used to:

I am already used to driving on the left. It was rather hard when I first came to England. — Я уже привык ездить по левой стороне дороги. Это было довольно сложно, когда я впервые приехал в Англию.

Если вы хотите рассказать о процессе формирования привычки, используйте конструкцию get used to.
