How to
be a good citizen?
Definition
of citizenship
A citizen is a member of
a country. He has the right and the duty to protect it and obey its laws and
rules.
Fortunately, being a good
citizen doesn’t stop at the exchange of rights and duties, it requires a lot of
civilized behavior, and responsible acts.
Simple
acts to do in your daily life
All the members of our
community, from the youngest to the eldest, have to cooperate. Simple acts and
easy behavior can help us improve our level of life. As citizens, and students
in particular, all we have to do are the steps below:
§
Start with your own home, clean it regularly.
§
Being a good neighbor by caring about others.
§
Don’t overuse water and electricity.
§
Respect your neighbors, help them if necessary, and act politely.
§
Don’t litter, or throw trash in the street.
§
Cross the street at the Zebra crossing, it lowers the level of
accidents.
§
Respect your school, especially its doors, walls and windows.
§
If you can study about your country, it would be great. See the
extreme diversity you have (the desert, the sea, the mountains, the different
dialects, the traditions, the traditional clothes).
§
In emergencies, don’t be afraid. Help the people in need. (Call
the police, the ambulance, and help a lady in the street…) Imagine you were in
their place; wouldn’t you like to have other people standing by your side?
Citizenship starts from
childhood. It’s only by practicing those really simple acts that our daily life
can get better. I hope this will help us understand another meaning of good
citizenship.
I hope this will help us
understand another meaning of good citizenship.

Let’s watch a video: “Being a good citizen”.
While watching make sure that you put down all the new rules.
After that we’ll divide into 3 groups and fill in the chart: What good citizens
must/should do; mustn’t/shouldn’t or are (use of adjectives).

Typescript. 3,02.
Be kind to everyone. That’s the first thing you need to do to be a
good citizen.
Smile and respect everyone just as you would want them to.
Be friendly to new children in your neighborhood and class.
Respect different children from all communities, religions and countries.
Always help the elderly in crossing roads, getting aboard a bus or
carrying a grocery bag.
We are responsible for keeping our surroundings clean, so throw
your trash in trash bins, if you find trash thrown around in public, pick it up
and throw it in the right place.
Follow all the traffic rules. Wait for the signal to cross the
road and always cross at the Zebra crossing.
Follow your school rules, begin your class on time and respect
your school property.
A good citizen believes in doing what’s right and guides his
friends to do the same.
Keep away from social evils like drinking, smoking and stealing.
Donate your old clothes and toys to needing children and make them
happy.
A good citizen has self-control. Control your anger in public and
never use abusive language.
Respect the property of others. Always ask before using something
that belongs to someone else.
Respect the authority. People in charge of rules have to maintain
order in the society, whether it’s the police, traffic police, your principal
and teachers or your parents at home. Give them the due respect.
Be aware of your rights. As a citizen of this country you have the
right to be treated equally and fairly. Take your complains to someone in
authority if you are been denied of your rights.
Beware of what’s happening in your surroundings and take an active
part to make it better in whichever way you can.
Be responsible for yourself and what you do, which means following
all the rules as a student, as a member of a family and as a member of a
society with all your heart.
6. Before we fill in the chart, I want to remind you that
apart from the responsibilities you also have some rights. Let’s make some
exercise! Stand up and repeat after me!
I have the right to live!
I have the right to love!
I have the right to work!
I have the right to eat!
I have the right to breathe!
I have the right to think!
I have the right to live!
I have the right to love!
Thank you! Sit down please!
