To my mind my work is very actual because the know ledge about different nations leads to friendship and understanding between people. Actual
Firstly I visited the main town of karaites in the Crimea – Calais. It’s a magnificent cave town. You can find a fortress, different kinds of temples and kind palaces there. I read a lot of books. I like this nation. It has own religion, own cuisine and own language, of corse.
The karaites are the descendants of Khazar. Despite the fact that there are few members of this nation, Their language kept in proper.
The language of karaites is very beautiful and melodic.
The main task for karaites is family. They like their children very much paying a lot of time to their upbringing. Karaites show their respect for grown-ups.
Their cuisine is based on the dough, mutton and milk products. Nowadays the karaites pies are very popular among people.
The folk-lore of karaites is very rich. There are a lot of legends and proverbs.
Karaites say “Trees are decorated with leaves and man is decorated with clothes”. The clothes keeps Oriental flavor.
Anan ben David from Baghdad had an important role in their religion. Karaites services are held at the “kenas”.
The main fortress was Calais. It is a real town surrounded by walls and mountains. Calais is very beautiful: short steep streets, small houses , cave settlement. Calais is a splendid temple. You know that karaites had a printing house on Calais.
Nowadays karaites live in the Crimea, in different towns of Ukraine and abroad: in Russia, Poland. France and Lithuania. In 1800 there were about 4000 karaites in the Crimea. Unfortunately the population of this wonderful nation is shortened. Over 700 karaites live in our peninsula now.
