  The problem
  Nowadays a great number of Russian school-leavers prefer to get their higher education in Great Britain. But, being unaware of their traditions and customs, they adapt themselves to their social surroundings with some difficulties.

  Hypothesis
  We suppose, that our “How to be British?” collection will help overseas visitors to communicate with native people while studying in GB and to behave like a true Brit, living in Russia.
  The problem is vital,
  because according to our questionnaire 50% of pupils of our class would like to study in GB, 35% are indecisive in their answers, and only 15% refused to study in GB.

  Object – Mass media (newspapers, brochures, documentary films, the Internet, textbooks, photos).
  
  Subject – information about the British way of life through their traditions, British sense of humor and their way of life.

  Conclusions
  Having researched the problem under consideration we’ve come to know, that:
  1.this collection is vital to avoid difficulties in communication with native people;
  2.to be British you should :
  a) respect British traditions and customs;
  b) learn to understand British humor;
  c) get used to the way of life of an islander.
  
  Having behaved like true Brits in Russia we’ve found out that:
  a) it’s impossible to observe traditions of another country living in Russia, because of the cultural differences. But as far as gastronomic customs are concerned, such as fish & chips and 5 o’clock tea, it’s easy to follow these customs;
  b) as for British jokes, we told some jokes to our pupils and found out that 15% understood them, 15% understood them partially, 70% didn’t understand them at all. So we should build up your skills in this area.
  c) the way of life of an islander doesn’t always correspond to the continental one in transport as well as in architecture.

  Practical significance
  Having read our brochure,
  78% - were glad to find a truly British experience;
  20% - became upset because they can’t follow these recommendations;
  2% - couldn’t give the answer.
  As this brochure is popular with pupils we are going to continue this problem research.
