HOLIDAYS In England
Christmas Christmas is a religious holiday and one of the happiest holidays of the year in England. It is celebrated on the 25th of December. People send X-mas cards to their friends and relatives. People buy a Christmas tree and decorate it with toys, coloured balls and lights.Santa Claus brings presents in bright paper and ribbons. Children wake up early to find stockings full of small presents on their beds. People wish each other a «Merry Christmas!»
New Year’s Day British people celebrate New Year’s Day on the 31st of December. Some people stay up all night. They blow horns and whistles with friends and relatives at midnight. At midnight they sing songs,hug,kiss,shake hands and shout «Happy New Year!»
St. Valentine’s day On the 14th of February people celebrate St. Valentine’s Day. It is a day of love and friendship. People send Valentine’s cards to our sweethearts and ask them to «Be my Valentine».The sweethearts must guess who sent cards.
Mother’s Day British people honor their mothers in May.This day is called Mother’s Day. People buy nice greeting cards and flowers. Men usually make a big dinner and say «Thanks for being such a great Mom!» on that day.
St. Patrick’s Day The 17th of March is a national holiday in Ireland. It is called St. Patrick’s Day. On that day people wear something green or a shamrock. The shamrock is the national symbol of Ireland. St. Patrick was a man who had wonderful power. He cleared Ireland from snakes.
Easter In April or May English people celebrate Easter. The week before Easter they colour eggs. On Easter Sunday children get chocolate eggs, that the Easter Bunny has left them in a basket of candy.
April Fool’s Day April Fool’s Day is on the 1st of April. English children like this day very much. They play jokes and tricks on their friends, even on adults.
Father’s day The English people celebrate Father’s Day in June. On that day children send cards, give presents to their fathers and say «Happy Father’s Day»
In Gteat Britain children don’t go to school on the 1st of September. They begin to study on the second Tuesday of September.
Halloween Halloween is one of the best holidays for children. Children celebrate Halloween on the 31st of October. The symbol of this holiday is "Jack o'lantern". People make it from a pumpkin. Children like Haloween parties, they wear masks and colorful costumes.The most popular costumes are witches,ghosts and skeletons. The children walk door to door and shout “trick or treat”.
