  Nowadays rapid technology change has resulted in fast-growing surplus оf electrical and electronic equipment. It contributes to the growing amount of electronic waste around the globe.

  What is considered to be electronic waste?
  Electronic waste, e-waste, e-scrap, or waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) describes discarded electrical or electronic devices. It includes used electronics which are going to be reused, resold, recycled, or disposed.

  Environmentalists all over the world consider electronic waste a "rapidly expanding" issue. About 50 million tons of E-waste is produced each year.

  According to the Environmental Protection Agency only 15-20% of e-waste is recycled, the rest of these electronics go directly into landfills.

  Should e-waste just be left in landfills or should it be recycled?
  When e-waste is left in landfills many chemicals come into the groundwater system and damage the environment. It simply makes good sense to recycle e-waste and to keep the environment green.

  Today the electronic waste recycling is developing in all areas of the world as a large and rapidly consolidating business. Most electronic devices contain a variety of materials, including rare metals that can be recovered for future uses.

  Great care must be taken in recycling operations to prevent hazardous materials such as heavy metals from polluting land, air and water.

  E-waste contains not only dangerous but also precious materials such as gold, silver, platinum and such base metals as copper, iron, aluminum . Another form of dealing with e-waste is dismantling obsolete units and providing reuse possibilities.

  Taking all above mentioned facts into consideration, I made up my mind to find out what happens to e-waste in Engels and Saratov region in general.

  I decided to enter the official site of our city administration to get the phone of the department in charge and ask them how e-waste is recycled in Engels.

  Unfortunately, I haven`t found any office there, the name of which would give me a hint they do it. Luckily, there was an Internet reception. So, I wrote all my questions there. I am still waiting for the answer…

  So, not to lose my time, I started surfing the Net looking for companies responsible for e-waste recycling.

  I downloaded search for « Office equipment recycling companies in Engels». Some sites dealing with the issue appeared on the screen. I called then one after another. In some offices nobody answered me. Some companies explained they were already out of this business.

  When I was about to lose my hope to get the answer to my question and give up, I called «The leading Recycling Company», it was one of the last on the list.

  -Who are you? Would you introduce yourself, please? Are you the head of the company, or are you the person in charge?

  Of course, the company is commercial. But looking through the price-list I discovered that the cost isn`t high. It is acceptable. And besides some free of charge certain actions take place.

  To sum it up, I`d like to emphasise that all the goals of the project have been fullfilled.Now we know that we can`t just throw away our old TV sets, phones, computers ( they are dangerous for our environment). We should call the companies in charge.
