London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and cultural centre. It's one of the largest cities in the world. Its population is more than 8 million people. London is situated on the river Thames. The city is very old and beautiful. It was founded more than two thousand years ago. Traditionally London is divided into several parts: the City, the West End, the East End and Westminster. The City is the oldest part of London, its financial and business centre. The heart of the City is the Stock Exchange. Westminster is the most important part of the capital. It's the administrative centre. The Houses of Parliament, the seat of the British Government, are there. It's a very beautiful building with two towers and a very big clock called Big Ben. Big Ben is really the bell which strikes every quarter of an hour. Opposite the Houses of Parliament is Westminster Abbey. It's a very beautiful church built over 900 years ago. The tombs of many great statesmen, scientists and writers are there.
To the west of Westminster is West End. Here we find most of the big shops, hotels, museums, art galleries, theatres and concert halls. Picadilly Circus is the heart of London's West End. In the West End there are wide streets with beautiful houses and many parks, gardens and squares. To the east of Westminster is the East End, an industrial district of the capital. There are no parks or gardens in the East End and you can't see many fine houses there. Most of the plants and factories are situated there. London has many places of interest. One of them is Buckingham Palace. It's the residence of the Queen. The English are proud of Trafalgar Square, which was named so in memory of the victory at the battle. There in 1805 the English fleet defeated the fleet of France and Spain. The last place of interest I should like to mention, is the British Museum, the biggest museum in London. The museum is famous for its library -one of the richest in the world
All London's long-past history is told by its streets. There are many streets in London which are known all over the" world. Among them Oxford Street, Downing Street and a lot of others can be mentioned. And tourists are usually attracted not only by the places of interest but by the streets too. In conclusion I should say if you are lucky enough to find yourself in London some day you will have a lot to see and enjoy there.
'Edinburgh'
Edinburgh is Scotland's capital. It is one of the most beautiful cities in Britain. You are never far from green parks, gardens and hills - even in the main shopping streets. It's a busy and modern city, but history is everywhere. The heart of Edinburgh is the thousand-year-old castle, where the kings of Scotland lived for centuries. Edinburgh has a busy cultural life. Every year, in August, the International Festival takes place there. Musicians, actors and singers come from all over the world and thousands of visitors fill the city. In the evening, the opera house, the theatres and conceit halls are full. In cafes and pubs, small groups sing, act and read poetry. The castle is at its best in Festival time. Every night there is a magnificent military "Tattoo". Highland soldiers wearing "kilts" play the bagpipes and march to the music.
At the top of the highest hill in Edinburgh is Edinburgh Castle. Soldiers have marched through its gates for nearly a thousand years. It was the home of Scotland's royal family until the year 1603 when King James the Sixth of Scotland became king of England as well and went south to live in London.

Cardiff is the capital of Wales and its chief port. Cardiff is the capital and largest city in Wales and the eleventh-largest city in the United Kingdom. The city is the country's chief commercial centre, the base for most national cultural and sporting institutions, the Welsh national media, and the seat of the National Assembly for Wales. The unitary authority area's mid-2011 population was estimated to be 346,100, while the population of the Larger Urban Zone was estimated at 861,400 in 2009. The Cardiff metropolitan area makes up over a third of the total population of Wales, with a mid-2011 population estimate of about 1,100,000 people. Cardiff is a significant tourist centre and the most popular visitor destination in Wales with 18.3 million visitors in 2010. In 2011, Cardiff was ranked sixth in the world in National Geographic's alternative tourist destinations.
The city of Cardiff is the county town of the historic county of Glamorgan (and later South Glamorgan). Cardiff is part of the Eurocities network of the largest European cities.[5] The Cardiff Urban Area covers a slightly larger area outside the county boundary, and includes the towns of Dinas Powys and Penarth. A small town until the early 19th century, its prominence as a major port for the transport of coal following the arrival of industry in the region contributed to its rise as a major city.
Cardiff was made a city in 1905, and proclaimed the capital of Wales in 1955. Since the 1980s, Cardiff has seen significant development. A new waterfront area at Cardiff Bay contains the Senedd building, home to the Welsh Assembly and the Wales Millennium Centre arts complex. Current developments include the continuation of the redevelopment of the Cardiff Bay and city centre areas with projects such as the Cardiff International Sports Village, a BBC drama village, and a new business district in the city centre .
Cardiff is quite an ancient town, but only in the 19th century it became a center of export trade in coal. The First and the Second World Wars stopped the demand for the Welsh coal both at home and abroad, and the growth of the city almost went down. Cardiff today is not like that it was earlier. There are many shopping malls, Victorian shopping arcades, cafes, bistros and many places where one can taste the locally brewed beer.

Belfast, a capital of Northern Ireland, is its main administrative,
economic and cultural center. It is
situated at the mouth of the river Lagan on the shores of Belfast Lough.
Belfast is one of the youngest capital cities in the world and it grows very fast. Today the city has apopulation of 400,000, nearly a third of the
entire population of Northern Ireland, but in the 17thcentury
it was only a
village. Then, during the 19th century, the development of industries
 likes linen,
rope-making, engineering and the sea-trade doubled the town's size every ten years.
Nowadays Belfast is an important center of textile manufacture, aircraft
production, electricalengineering and ship-building — it was here that the Titanic" was built and
sent out on her fatal voyage. Belfast has the largest in the world shipyard. It built many fine liners, warships and other vessels, which sail the seas of the world. Belfast is also
one of the largest seaports of the U.K. It handles most of the overseas
trade of Northern Ireland. Itsfine harbour welcomes ships from many parts of the world.
In the eastern part of Belfast you will see a magnificent Parliament
building. This place is called Stormont. Stormont is also the name of the former autonomous
Irish parliament, which existed from 1920 till 1972.
It consisted of two hambers — the House of Commons and the Senate. The BritishParliament has ruled Northern Ireland since 1972. Among other places of interest in Belfast are theQueen's University with many fine new
buildings,
the Cathedral of St. Anne and the Art Gallery.
The outskirts of Belfast are rich in beautiful parks. The Botanic Gardens
contain a rich collection ofrare plants. Some of the tropical plants are 100 years old. The Palm House built in 185 usually attracts the visitors' attention.
