sights of Nizhnekamsk. This gentleman is a group leader (GL). And that
one is a correspondent (C). He always asks many questions. And these
ladies and gentlemen are guides (G) from the Tourist Information
Office”Safar” This gentleman is a director (D) of the office. And I am
an English tourist too. And now you should present your project. I think we'll
start our excursion. Let's begin.

D: Good morning! Can I
help you?

group of English tourists. We are in Nizhnekamsk for the first time and we'd
like to see famous Nizhnekamsk sights. What could you suggest?
D: I can suggest a
tour about Nizhnekamsk and a boat tour along the Kama river. Which of these
tours would you prefer?
GL: I think we'll go on
both tours. And we'd like to start with a tour about Nizhnekamsk.
D: That's OK. Here you
can see some leaflets about the most famous sights of Nizhnekamsk
GL: Thanks a lot.

Нижнекамске. Показ слайдов)
G1: Dear guests! Welcome
to our city. Nizhnekamsk is situated on the left bank of the river Kama 300km
from Kazan. It is stretched along the river Kama more than 10km. Nizhnekamsk
with its many storied buildings seems to be a giant ship, sailed into the glade
of the pine grove: from both sides it is surrounded by the forest. The town
with its wide streets, shady avenues and cosy green public gardens is very
picturesque.
ET: When was your town founded?
G1: The
foundation stone was laid in 1960 and construction of the town was carried out
to the project of the Moscow Institute. In 1966, the new workers settlement of
“Nizhnekamsky” received town status.
C: How many people live in your
town?
G2: The
population of the town and its region consists over 285000 citizens, including
49,2 % of Tatars, 46,1% of Russians, 3% of Chuvashs and many others. There are
40 nationalities all in all. The average age of the citizens is 32 years.
(Слайды: Сквер Лемаева,
кинотеатр «Джалиль», музей, мечеть, церкви)
G1: Let’s
begin our tour from Khimikov prospect. It is the longest street in our town.
You can see different sights both on the left and on the right of the street.
Now you can see Lemayev Square and the monument to the first general director
of the chemical industrial complex JSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim Nikolay
Vasilyevich Lemayev. The best square of modern Nizhnekamsk is named in honour
of Lemayev. Here, on the square, his bust was installed.
G2:
Nizhnekamsk has many interesting places to visit: a museum, where you can trace
the development of the town, a cultural centre, many restaurants and
entertainment centres, two hockey stadiums. After reconstruction, the cinema
“Dzhalil” opened wide the doors. It is equipped with all innovations in the
system of film-hire service.
ET: What is the religion of
Tatars?
G1: Islam
in Tatarstan goes back as far as the early 10th century. It is the
religion of Tatars. For more than 1000 years, Russians have followed the
Russian Orthodox Church. In Nizhnekamsk there are two Mosques, an Orthodox Church
is under construction and the Church of Old Lady, built at the end of the 19th
century.
(Слайды: Красный
Ключ, Святой Ключ)
G2: One of
main sightseeings is a small village Krasny Klutch not far from the town. It
has a long and interesting history. The favourite place of the inhabitants is
the Holy Spring. It has been for many years, all people love this place and
come here to celebrate weddings and some religious festivals or just relax
among the trees with the view to the river Kama. The Holy Spring has an
interesting history. Merchants Staheevs bought the property Holy Spring in
1882. They began to build the summer residence on high bank of the river. They
have surrounded the houses with gardens, greenhouses, verandas, fountains. Nut,
pith trees, citrus plants were raised here. Holy Spring has been utterly
reconstructed and improved by the 35th anniversary of the city. The
idea was turned into life by the famous local artist and designer Vladimir Nikolsky,
whose talent in the sphere of the landscape architecture revealed itself very
expressively. Natural rubble stone on each step of broad stairs which lead to
the new rebuilt embankment of the river Kama, severe metal grating decorated
with patterns plus original lamps absolutely changed this prohibited nature
corner. It’s hard to believe that all this work, which has been done during
only 4 months and which absolutely transformed the main sight of the city
“river gate”, was done by hand.
G1: It is now a tourist shopping centre with cafes and
restaurants. If you are hungry you can go to a cafe to have lunch.
ET1: Where shall we sit?
ET2: Let's sit over there
near the window.
Waiter (W): Can I help you? I
see you are strangers. Would you like to taste our Tatar national dishes?
ET1: Could you show us the
menu, please?
W: Certainly. Here it
is. Are you ready to order?
ET2: Yes, we'll have
chicken soup with noodles, meat pie, please.
W: Anything else?
RT1 : Yes, some vegetable
salad, please.
W: What will you have
to drink?
ET1: I'll have a cup of
black tea with lemon, please.
ET2: And I'll have orange
juice, please.
W: And
what would you like for dessert? I’ll recommend you our delicious sweet dish
chak-chak.
ET1,2: Thank you, with pleasure.
G: Did you enjoy our meal?

We have never tasted such dishes before.
(Презентация «Сабантуй»)
ET1: Are
there any traditions and celebrations in your region?
G1: Of
course, we are proud of our traditions. I’d like to tell you about Sabantui-the
traditional Tatar festival that celebrates the end of spring ploughing. It is a
very colourful, noisy and exciting festival. On this day the streets of our
city are crowded with people wearing traditional costumes. They sing and do
traditional dances. There are sack races, wrestling and tud-of-war
competitions, and lots of games with prizes. The grand finale of the day is the
horse racing. Anyone can take part. The celebration ends when the prizes are
presented. The winners of the wrestling and horse racing get traditional
prizes: six sheep and a car!
ET: It’s sound very amazing and
wonderful. When do you celebrate this festival?
G: In June, firstly in villages,
then in towns and the last in Kazan. We are welcome you to visit our festivals.
(Слайды: День Победы,

P3: There
is another great festival – Victory Day. We celebrate it on the 9th of May
because that was the final day of the Great Patriotic War. There are monuments
and Victory memorials in our region. On this day veterans gather together and
put flowers to the monuments to honour the memory of the war heroes. We
congratulate war veterans and give them flowers, too. In Nizhnekamsk we have 12
