-to practice the vocabulary on the topic
-to organize listening comprehension exercises
-to encourage students’ speaking activity, to involve them in making up mini-dialogues
-to brush up Past Simple and to practice it
-to develop communicative skills
Equipment: a laptop and a big TV set or a screen and a projector.
1)Greeting. Introducing the topic.
The lesson starts with a piece of video(A song of Mary Poppins from the old English film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy7XEMeBROQ)
Then a teacher comes into the classroom dressed up like Mary Poppins.
T:Hello,dear friends! Today I’m not your teacher. I’m Mary Poppins. Do you remember me? I’m the main character of the book by Pamela Lyndon Travers. And I’ve just come back from my summer vacations. And I’ve got a compass. And what is it for?
(the pupils give their ideas)
II. The main part.
T:This little box can take us round the world! Once we travelled with Mike and Jane…With the help of it we’ll get to different places where you can go during your summer holidays. Let’s turn it and count to five all together.(The pupils count and he teacher switches on another video about seaside
And it’s on while the pupils are answering teacher’s questions and making the mind-map
T. Where are we now? Right you are! At the seaside! And what can we do at the seaside?(The pupils give their ideas and the teacher draws the mind-map on the blackboard)
-to swim in the sea
-to go diving
-to go windsurfing
-to go sailing
-to make sand castles
-to go on excursions
-to visit the places of interest
-to walk along the beach
-to feed the seagulls etc.
T:O.K.Let’s turn our compass and count to five.(Another episode is about mountains.
T:Where are we now? Right, in the mountains. And what can we do there?
-climb the mountains
-to enjoy the views/nature
-to go hiking
-to swim in the mountain lake
-to go rafting along the mountain river etc.
And in such a way we turn our compass ,switch on the video and get to the village and abroad or to a big city. When the mind map is ready the pupils in pairs ask and answer the questions “Where did you go this summer? What did you see there? What did you do there?Did you enjoy your summer holidays?”using Past Simple.
T:Well and I’ve got a friend Bert, you saw him at the beginning of our lesson, we were singing and dancing together. He has just come from his vacations too. Let’s phone him in the Skype.(The sound of Skype ringing… and we listen to “Bert’s” story about summer rest, whether downloaded from the Internet or read and recorded by some senior pupil, who is good at reading)
T:Bert’s story was very interesting and we want to find out more details about his rest, don’t we? We’ve got a lot of questions, but Bert is a very busy person, you know ,he draws pictures on the pavement. So, he’s always short of time. But we can write our questions down and send them to him by e-mail. You’ll do it at home. I think Bert will be glad to receive your letters. Here’s his e-mail(the teacher gives his /her address and in such a way the home task will be done and sent on her e-mail)
III. Evaluation and giving home task.

1)Greeting and warming-up.
T:Hello.How are you today? By the way, what season is it now? What month is it now? And what season is before autumn?Do you like summer?Do you feel like singing a song?
And now let’s sing a song about summer.
2)Introducing the topic and the goals of the lesson.
T:Today you are not sitting at your desks, you are sitting in a circle .And we are not going to have an ordinary lesson. We’ll have a training. Trainings are very popular nowadays ,in all possible areas .And today we are going to speak about your summer vacations.
1)Starter:elicit and demonstrate.
At the previous lesson we spoke about summer holidays in general.
We made up a mind- map and it helped me to create a presentation. Let’s watch it and brush up the vocabulary(the presentation is on my site or you may use a presentation of your own)
And now, using this presentation, tell us in a chain where did you go and what did you see or do on your summer vacations. So ,personally I went to the village and I stayed at my parents’. We went to the lake every day, we swam and sunbathed. It was fun. And you?
Let’s do some grammar drills on the basis of our presentation. One pupil says that he/she goes somewhere or does something in summer, pupil 2-that he went there or was there last summer and pupil 3 that he/she will do it next summer too.(you may brush up the rules if necessary)
b)vocabulary drill(worksheet. Addition 1)
T. In our text book there is a letter, which a boy wrote about his summer holidays. Let’s read it aloud and translate .And now I’ll give you the sentences from the text in Russian/Ukrainian and you are to translate them into English. Answer my questions on this text. Read and complete the sentences(ex 3 p.8 in the text book or you can prepare your own cards) etc.
d)Training on writing letters .How to begin, organize and conclude the letter(Presentation 2)
T:Well,you know how to write letters in a proper way. And do you like to write letters? How often do you use e-mail? What are the advantages of e-mail?
b)set up and instructions.
And your last task for today is to write a letter about your summer holidays to me. You can write an ordinary paper letter or send it by e-mail.
4)Summing up, evaluation.

-to use grammar and vocabulary from the previous lessons in different communicative tasks

T:Hello!Today we are having the last lesson on the topic “Summer holidays”. Before the lesson you had to form four groups and choose the captain. So, our first team will deal with the rest at the seaside, the second team-in the mountains, the third one-in the village and the fourth team will go abroad. During the lesson you’ll have to participate in the following activities and projects:
-to convince other pupils that your rest is the best
-to try your hand at writing poetry
-to dramatize a talk about your kind of rest
-to do some grammar and vocabulary tasks
-to make a project about your summer rest.
1)Vocabulary contest. The members of the team, one by one name the words which describe their kind of rest(nouns, adjectives, verbs or word combinations)You can set up time limit,1 min for example. The more words they name the more points they get.
2)Drama contest. Each team listens to their dialogue-pattern, makes up their own one and dramatizes it.
3)The contest of advertisement “Our rest is the best” .Imagine that you work for an advertizing company and you’ve got a task from a tourist agency to popularize the rest at some sea or mountain resort, in the country, the so-called “eco-tourism “ or in a big city. Write a short advertisement for a magazine.
4)Poetry contest. Try to compose a short rhyme about summer and your kind of rest. Then the captain reads aloud what they’ve got.
5)Grammar contest. Each team gets the worksheet with the tasks on Simple tenses.
III. Summing-up and evaluation.
The home task for each team is to prepare a presentation or a booklet about summer rest of the members of their team with photos and comments.
