1. Read
and translate the Pilot-book:
Dangers: Le Vetgoyer is a sandy shoal which extends
about 15 miles south-westward from a position about 10 miles south-westward of
Cap d’Alprech. This shoal rises from general depths of from 14 to 30 fathoms
(25m6 to 54m9); its eastern side is steep-to, while its
western side slopes gradually. The shoalest part of Le Vetgoyer is a 2-fathom
(3m7) patch, which lies about 2 miles south-westward of its
north-eastern extremity. In bad weather, or with a heavy swell, the sea breaks
all over this shoal.
Pilotage: Pilotage is compulsory, and no vessel
should attempt to enter without a pilot. As the bar is impassible at low water;
inward-bound vessel (входящее судно) requiring a pilot should communicate with Salinas by radio. The
pilot will embark within the bar, and conduct the vessel up the river. They
board the vessel from a black motor boat.

Buoys: The entrance channel is marked in
accordance with the uniform system, by a pair of spar buoys, moored
north-westward of Wilhausen Point, and by another pair, moored westward of Bar
Point.
A red spar
buoy is moored about 4 cables north-westward of the lighthouse, near the edge
of the shore bank, with depths of less than 3 fathoms (5m5) over it,
that extends, eastward from St. Ann’s beach.
Dangers:
A rocky patch, with
depths of 27 feet (8m2) over it, lies about one mile south-westward
of Gull Island.
Black rock, one
foot (0m3) high, is situated about 3 cables westward of Gull
Island; a rocky ledge extends about 2 cables westward from it. A rock, with
depths of less than 6 feet (1m8) over it, lies about 1 1/2 cables
south-westward of Black rock.
Cautions: Vessels proceeding to S. channel from B.

clear of all dangers.

1. Read and translate the Pilot-book:
Anchorages: Torbay is too much exposed to south-easterly winds to form a secure
anchorage, although the islets and reefs in the bay give shelter to coasting
vessels with local knowledge. Such vessels frequently anchor under Torbay
head. The approach to the above anchorage is intricate, and should not be
attempted without local knowledge.
Lights: A light is exhibited, at an elevation of 70 feet (21m3),
from a lighthouse painted black and white in horizontal bands, 62 feet(18m9)
in height, situated on the south-eastern side of the entrance to the harbour.
This lighthouse is equipped with a radar reflector.
Directions: Eastern passage is the most convenient
channel for a vessel approaching from southward, and she can enter either
through Broke passage or between Chalky point and Table rock; the latter is the
best passage and is free of dangers; the passage between Table rock and Balleny
reef has not been closely examined , and is not recommended.

Pilotage: Pilotage is compulsory for merchant
vessels, and strict attention must be paid to signals made from the signal
station. The pilot station is about three-quarters of a mile westward of North
head.
Tidal Streams: The tidal streams in the northern approach
to Great Sandy strait continue to run 40 minutes after high and low water. The
strength of the flood is accelerated by strong northerly winds, but the ebb
does not appear to be influenced by the winds.
Buoyage: The light buoys on the southern side of the channel are
painted black and white chequers, marked with odd numbers, and exhibit green
fixed lights; those on the northern side are painted red, surmounted by
cylinders, marked with even numbers, and exhibit red fixed lights. These buoys
are moved as necessary to conform with alterations in the channel.

Banks and Dangers: Banc d’Amfard is the name given to the
outer part of a drying bank in Chenal de la Seine, its western extremity is
known as Camber d’Amfard. Banc d’Amfard is composed of clay and shingle.
Several dangerous wrecks,
some of which are marked by buoys, lie in the vicinity of Rade de la Carosse;
their positions can be best seen on the chart.
Anchorages: The depths in the anchorage range from 5
to 9 fathoms (9m1 to 16m5), and the holding ground, sand,
is fairly good in the space three-quarters of a mile long by half a mile broad,
but father westward is reported as not good and no vessel should anchor nearer
than 800 yards of these shores. The drawback (недостаток) of this anchorage is the exposure to the Atlantic, but Tamridor bay, about 4 miles westward of Bandar Delaisha, is said to be more
exposed to the violent squalls from the hills and to the swell.

indicate the bar channel; their position is altered in accordance with the
changes in the bar.
Buoys: Two buoys mark the western limit of the

vertical stripes, surmounted by a Saint Andrew’s cross, is moored about 2 miles
west-south-westward of Pointe du Touquet; a pillar buoy, painted in red and
