Organization of training with
a Learning Management System

Summary. In article the analysis of a training
management system of Moodle is made. Its benefits, features of work and
shortcomings are considered. It is made the analysis of influence of system on
quality of educational process and its implementation.

Modern universal
technology of education is the distance learning focused on individual
inquiries of trainees and their specialization. However, from the point of view
of today's realities, there is a number of questions [2].
The organization of
educational process has to be under construction on the basis of opportunities
of competence-based approach and development of professional competences, both
the teacher, and the student. It is impossible to forget about the personality
and about system of relationship "person person" which the person
technician system can force out. At distance learning this side very thin.
Unconditional benefits of
distance training is that the student has an opportunity itself to choose the
sequence of studying of objects, rate of work, there is an opportunity to solve
independently, what is the time to spend for studying. It is good option for
those who the most part of day are engaged at work, with children or with a
family. But distance training, as well as any system isn't ideal and has the
shortcomings. In case of this form of training there is a problem in
identification of the student – it is impossible to check who actually carries
out examination. In general, for training "at distance" it is
necessary to have strong motivation and self-organization.
The purpose of this work
is the analysis of system of remote education - Moodle learning management
system.
Today in education a large
number of systems of remote education, one of which is Moodle [2], is used. On
the level of the given opportunities of Moodle bears comparison with the known
commercial systems of remote education, at the same time differs from them in
what extends in an open source code - it gives the chance to customize system
under features of the specific educational project, and if necessary and to
build in it new modules.
The system of distance learning
Moodle is quite convenient, logical and practical. She allows to use various
multimedia content, to create a problem of any type, provides different forms
of communication between all participants of process. The Moodle system offers
a wide choice and various opportunities of information transfer and
communication with students and all who are registered in it on a course.
Beginners quickly enough master work in system. The help of a tyyuter allows
the teacher to cope with the arisen difficulties. Convenient navigation allows
to pass quickly from a course to a course, there is always an opportunity to
edit and correct information of a course, and use of the Test task allows to
estimate and put down a mark - automatically that saves working hours of the
teacher.
Important feature of Moodle is the
fact that the system creates and keeps a portfolio of each pupil [1]: to works,
all messages in a forum, and also "attendance", activity of students,
time of their study in network allows to control all works which are handed
over to them, all estimates and comments of the teacher.
Except the listed benefits of use of
the Moodle system to information transfer and communication with students, we
will note convenient, system of messages Moodle:
first, there is an opportunity
directly in case of login to pay attention to the unread message that it allows
to increase efficiency in operation in case of the response to messages (to
give the necessary information, will even provide small personal consultation);
secondly, if necessary there is a
service for the general mailing to at the same time rather large number of
students of the necessary information (to make a reminder or the urgent
announcement in a subject, choosing from group of necessary students);
thirdly, it is very convenient that
messages of the Moodle system are duplicated on the e-mail address to which
personal data of the participant is tied (login, the password), i.e. the system
is customized so that as soon as possible various images to make the
notification and to come into contact between participants.
Moodle is free system therefore it is
very heavy to criticize it for small inconveniences for users as inconvenient
system of check of tasks or creation of bank of questions – they take too much
time. The increasing problems which we face in operating time in Moodle can be
divided into three groups:
- technical - they preferentially
concern not the system, but power of the server on which the Moodle system is
installed. The problem of "hang" influences quality of communication,
and impossibility to restrict time of passing of the test job, that is to
adequately estimate operation of students.
- temporary - they are connected with
the fact that teachers and students aren't informed in all functionality of
system, and therefore don't use him. Not all functions are intuitively
available therefore all inconveniences which are caused by this problem
disappear in the course of studying of features of work.
- ethical - they are connected with
the fact that remote education best of all realizes the potential in the
conditions of voluntariness of training of students and their interest in
quality of results of training. Students throughout distance learning always
have an opportunity to bypass system. It both plagiarism, and an opportunity to
one student to pass test for others, an opportunity to carry out a task the
stranger, etc.
Teachers can't independently solve
the first group of problems. As for the second group, this problem entirely can
be solved by forces of teachers. The third group of problems can be solved
partially in case of lack of technical problems and in case of existence of
means for establishment of additions which give opportunities of video of a
chat.
Having summed up the result, one may
say, that in Moodle there is a lot of interesting and useful. Everything
depends on desire and motivation of the person, his spirit on operation. For
example, the student shall be aimed to make and hand over all jobs well and in
time. And it will simplify to it system of passing an examination. The list of
courses is submitted completely what simplifies navigation according to the
page. In general, Moodle as a platform, is simple and convenient for
perception. It defines in many respects its recognition by the international
community. The author of the concept Moodle Martin Dougiamas platform created
an instrumental thing which helps very much us in case of the synchronous and
asynchronous training which people with different educational level, different
cultures can use, with different physical capacities including with limited.
The only thing that can't be solved by means of this platform is an
implementation of educational process directly in the “person-person system”,
passing the person technician system.
