So let’s go to one London school! The lesson of geography. This is a young teacher of geography. Her name is Miss Bell. (One of the pupils is Miss Bell).

  1. Developing abilities of speaking. (1st stage of the game):

Miss Bell: My name is Miss Bell. I am your new teacher of geography. It’s time to begin our lesson. Today we shall talk about Canada. Canada is very beautiful: it has woods and lakes, plains and mountains. Who wants to tell about geographical position of Canada?

Kuanysh: Canada has an area of ten million square kilometres. Its western coast is washed by the Pacific Ocean and its eastern coast by the Atlantic Ocean. There are many islands in the north of Canada.

Miss Bell: Very good, thank you. Who wants to tell about mountains of Canada?

Nastya: I’d like to tell you about mountains of Canada. The Rocky Mountains run parallel to the Pacific coast, to Labrador, in Baffin Island.

Miss Bell: Good, thank you. And now who can tell us about lakes of Canada?

Katya: Canada is a country of lakes. Besides the Great Lakes – Lake Superior, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario and Lake Michigan, there are many other very large lakes, for example, Great Bear Lake, Great Slave Lake and Lake Winnipeg.

Miss Bell: All right! And who wants to tell us about rivers of Canada?

Ulzhan: I’d like to tell you about rivers of Canada. Canada has many rivers: the Mackenzie, the Yukon, St. Lawrence River and others. The Mackenzie flows from the Rocky Mountains into the Arctic Ocean. The Yukon rises in Canada and flows into the Pacific Ocean. St. Lawrence River flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

Vitaly: I want to tell you about the Niagara Falls. The Niagara Falls is one of the most splendid sights in the world. It is on the Niagara River between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Its total height is 52 metres. It is about a two hour drive from Toronto.

Miss Bell: Good for you! Thank you, children! The lesson is over.

  1. (2nd stage of the game): during the break

Mary: Jane, what is our homework on geography? I was ill.

Jane: Oh, Mary! I haven’t seen you for ages! Where have you been all this time?

Mary: In summer I and my parents visited Canada. We had a good time there. Would you like to know more about Canada?

Jane: Yes, of course!

Mary: Then you may come to me and my parents will tell you a lot of interesting facts about Canada.

Jane: May I come to you with my teacher and my friends?

Mary: Certainly.

  1. (3rd stage of the game): in Browns’ family

Mary: This is my mother

Mother: Glad to meet you!

Mary: This is my father.

Father: Nice to meet you! You want to know everything about Canada, don’t you?

Maral: Yes, of course. Would you like to tell us about Canadian industry?

Father: With pleasure. The country is rich in natural resources: gas, oil, coal, gold, copper, iron ore, nickel, uranium, zinc, along with wood and water. It is one of the world’s leaders in mineral exports.

Alisher: Can you say a few words about the capital and big cities?

Mother: The capital of the country is Ottawa. Its currency is the Canadian dollar. The country’s most important symbol is the maple leaf. Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories, each with its own capital city.

Tolegen: What kind of state is Canada?

Mother: Canada is a constitutional monarchy. Elizabeth II, Queen of England, is also Canada’s Queen.

Nurgul: What is the official language in Canada?

Father: The French were the first to settle in the country in large numbers during the 17th and early 18th centuries. People of British origin came to stay there mainly after 1763, the year when the British conquered the French Colony of New France. As a result Canada has a dual cultural heritage and both French and English are official languages.

Dasha: What are the main agricultural products of Canada?

Father: Canada’s main agricultural products are wheat, meat, some kinds of fruit, especially apples, and dairy products.

Zhadyra: Thank you very much for your story. This story will help us to get only good marks.

Teacher: Make three groups, please. I’ll give you some questions about Canada. Read and answer them.

Answer the questions:

  1. What is the capital of Canada?

  2. Which countries, oceans and seas surround Canada?
