Miss Bell:
My name is Miss Bell. I am your new teacher of geography. It’s time to begin
our lesson. Today we shall talk about Canada. Canada is very beautiful: it has
woods and lakes, plains and mountains. Who wants to tell about geographical
position of Canada?
Kuanysh:
Canada has an area of ten million square kilometres. Its western coast is
washed by the Pacific Ocean and its eastern coast by the Atlantic Ocean. There
are many islands in the north of Canada.
Miss Bell:
Very good, thank you. Who wants to tell about mountains of Canada?
Nastya:
I’d like to tell you about mountains of Canada. The Rocky Mountains run
parallel to the Pacific coast, to Labrador, in Baffin Island.
Miss Bell:
Good, thank you. And now who can tell us about lakes of Canada?

Miss Bell:
All right! And who wants to tell us about rivers of Canada?
Ulzhan:
I’d like to tell you about rivers of Canada. Canada has many rivers: the
Mackenzie, the Yukon, St. Lawrence River and others. The Mackenzie flows from
the Rocky Mountains into the Arctic Ocean. The Yukon rises in Canada
and flows into the Pacific Ocean. St. Lawrence River flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

I want to tell you about the Niagara Falls. The Niagara Falls is one of the
most splendid sights in the world. It is on the Niagara River between Lake Erie

of the world’s leaders in mineral exports.

Can you say a few words about the capital and big cities?
Mother:
The capital of the country is Ottawa. Its currency is the Canadian dollar. The
country’s most important symbol is the maple leaf. Canada has 10 provinces and

Canada is a constitutional monarchy. Elizabeth II, Queen of England, is also Canada’s Queen.

What is the official language in Canada?

The French were the first to settle in the country in large numbers during the
17th and early 18th centuries. People of British origin
came to stay there mainly after 1763, the year when the British conquered the
French Colony of New France. As a result Canada has a dual cultural heritage
and both French and English are official languages.

Canada’s main agricultural products are wheat, meat, some kinds of fruit,
