Good morning, students! I'm
very glad to see you! Isn’t it a wonderful day we have? Let’s start our work
with poetry! Please, look at the screen and read out the poem by William
Henry Davies.
Well done! So, taking into
account this poem what we are going to discuss today? What’s the author’s
attitude to the City? And to the Village? Right you are!
As we are city residents we
should know the most important words used in everyday city life, agree? Let’s
check how good you are at this. First of all, let’s split into pairs. And
now help your partners do the crossword by giving definitions of active words
from your crossword. Students A, start please!
Well, the time is up! So,
Dasha, does your partner know active words? Victoria, which words were
difficult for your partner to guess?
Well, I see that you know
active vocabulary but are you ready to use it speaking about the place you
live in. At home you’ve prepared the story “Living in Minsk”. So the
activity will be easy for you! Please, come here, take a card with your
question and make up 2 circles. Discuss living in a big city with your
groupmates and don’t forget about the Art of Small Talk. Thank you, you can
take your seats. Karolina, please, share with us what you’ve learnt about
your classmates?

to the start of our class. Do you remember how William Davies describes
village? So, Matvey, have you ever thought about moving to the countryside?
I often think about it and haven’t decided so far. Maybe today you will help
me. I also asked my friends about the place they live in and the way they
feel about it. I received e-mails from them from which today we can find out
all pluses and minuses of living in the city and countryside. And I have a
question to you: can you guess where they live? Can you recognize the city?
Is it a metropolis? How can he spend his free time in such surroundings?
I think we can face unknown
words in their mails.
Match the unknown words
with the right definition or image.
Well, now we are ready to
compare living in the city and the village. To do this we will work in pairs
of Secretary and Presenter. Each pair gets a mail. You have 2 minutes to read
it, to elicit both pluses and minuses of their residential areas and to fill
in your charts.
And now, Presenters,
please, stand up, join another Secretary and share your information with him
or her.
Ok, presenters, go back to
your Secretaries who are ready to share with you all the information they’ve
learnt from the other speakers. Discuss which you agree with. So, what
pluses of living in the city, mentioned by my friends, do you agree with?
Well, finally, I’d like to
learn your opinion. Where would you like to live, in the village or in the
countryside?

amazing answers! So, as you know me pretty well I’ll ask you to be more
detailed and write a letter with recommendations for me what place of living
to choose. Give reasonable arguments and be convincing.
So, students, you’ve worked
just wonderful today but still not without some small mistakes. I was very
attentive to them and put down them onto these stickers. Please, come to the
board, find a sticker with your mistake, grab it and correct the mistake. Who
is ready?
And now we should sum up
what we’ve learnt today. Come to the blackboard and fill in the charts “Now
I can …” and “Words I’ve learnt”.
