Maslenitsa is a Russian holiday. The celebration of our carnival tradition. Date of this holiday varies each year. Maslenitsa is a holiday of wires of winter, eight weeks before Easter. It took place before lent, Cheesefare week in the Orthodox calendar, and ended with forgiveness Sunday.
8 March
International Women’s Day (March 8 in Russia)
Though it is called International Women’s Day, it is celebrated mainly in Russia. It is Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day rolled in one. Boys and men bring flowers and small presents to girls and women they study or work with. At home men try to do all the housework on that day. There are many jokes that March 8 is the only day of the year when men do this.
23 February
Defender of the Fatherland day — the holiday celebrated February 23 in Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan. Was established in the RSFSR in 1922 as "Day of red Army and Navy". From 1946 until 1993 was called "Day of Soviet Army and Navy". After the collapse of the USSR the festival also continues to mention in several other countries.
