The theme: “The magic world of English” the intellectual game

The aims of the game:

1)    To enrich pupil’s knowledge and outlook

2)    To develop the pupil’s intellect, speaking, reading, listening and logical thinking

3)    To bring up the culture of communication and the need  in practical use of English language

The procedure of the game

Good morning dear guests, teachers and pupils! You are welcome to our intellectual game “The magic world of English”. We are glad to see you and we hope that you’ll enjoy today’s game.

I think the game will be interesting and useful for you. I wish everybody good luck. Pupils from the 7 and 8 classes will participate in this game: the first team is “Leaders”, the second one is “Champions”.

The game consists of 6 rounds

1.     The ABC game

2.     Baige

3.     Capitals

4.     Polyglot

5.     Who is faster?

6.     Zhorga

And now we come to the 1^st contest of the game called “The ABC game”. Kids, you’ll get some letters from the English alphabet. You must put the letters in the right order, so as to get the name of the English-speaking country. You have 1 minute at your disposal. Each team can get 5 points.

(1. Е, N, G, L, A, N, D.        2. A, M, E, R, I, C, A).

Let’s start the second  round which is called “Baige”. Questions

1.     Name English speaking countries.   GB, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia

2.     How many states are there in the USA?  50

3.     Where is Big Ben situated?  London

4.     What is a famous national holiday in Kazakhstan?

5.     How do you form the Present Perfect Tense? Have/has+V₃/V _ed

6.     Who is Shakespeare?  English poet and play writer

7.     Who is the head of Kazakhstan?  Nazarbaev

8.     When do people of Great Britain celebrate Christmas? 25^th of December

9.     When do people in Kazakhstan celebrate the Independence Day? 16^th of December

10. How do you form the Past Simple? Subj+V₃/V_ed

The next round is called “Capitals”. You should name the capitals of different countries.

1.     What is the capital of England?  London

2.     What is the capital of Italy?  Rome

3.     What is the capital of Canada?  Ottawa

4.     What is the capital of India?  Delhi

5.     What is the capital of the USA?  Washington

6.     What is the capital of Australia? Canberra

7.     What is the capital of Germany?  Berlin

The next round is “Polyglot”. The answers should be given in three languages (Kazakh, Russian, English)

For each right answer you’ll get 10 points.

5.     Clean but not water. White but not snow. Sweet but not ice-cream,  What is it?  Sugar-қант-сахар

The fourth round is “Who is faster?” You have to make up sentences with these words. Each team has two mixed sentences.

1.     English is the official language of Great Britain. She has been on holidays for three weeks.

2.     The population of Great Britain is about 57 million people. I have already translated this text into English.

The next  round  is “Zhorga”. In this stage you’ll start your answers with the letter A or B. The first group, your answers will be with the letter A. And  the second group, with the letter B.
