England. Through several
centuries the Anglo-Saxons were warrior farmers and came from the North-Western
Europe. They moved to the UK for 450 years. Before the Norman conquest of
England the inhabitants wore mostly traditional medieval clothing: a tunic,
usually made of wool, with a high collar and long sleeves. Such tunics were
usually put on a linen shirt. At that time in England the women's national
costume was also a tunic, similar to a man's, but long, which was complemented
by a mantle attached to a shoulder.
Scotland.
What is the Scottish men's costume: top of the costume - a linen shirt, over
which put a special cloak - kilt. It is a piece of plaid fabric wrapped around
the waist. The kilt is worn with a small bag my sporran. On its feet put on
knee-high socks and large shoes, decorated with metal buckles. Complements the
outfit takes with a feather. Each clan or family had its own tartan pattern.
Nowadays, the kilt wearing for the holidays.
Welsh. it
consists of a flannel lower skirt, which is worn under the upper swing clothes,
apron, red shawl and headdress - a scarf or hat. The tall "chimney sweep
hat" appeared later, in the 1840s. National costume Welsh wear only on the
occasion of festive public events; in the supermarket it does not go. The
custom of wearing the baby in a shawl - native Welsh tradition.
Ireland.
Irish folk costume-orange kilt to the knees, long jacket, shirt without a
collar and beret. The suit is almost lost. It's only worn by musicians. Women
in the past had a long-sleeved dress. The colourful patterns on the dresses are
based on Celtic designs.
