Mother: What are you doing?
Ben: I’m filling the application form for VSO job. I don’t know whether to type it or not.
Mother: I would. It looks much better if you type it.
Ben: OK. Listen, it says there that: “ You may add a supporting statements if you want.”
What does “ a supporting statements mean?”
Mother: It’s something extra you add to an application form. In the other words , you get
a chance to say something more about yourself.
Ben: I don’t understand why they need more information about me when I put everything
on the form.
Mother: Well, it’s also an opportunity to say why you think you’re suitable for the job.
Ben: Well, I suppose I’d better write something then. But I don’t Know what to say.
Mother: You can think of something , surely. You must know why you want the job.
Ben: I’m not sure now. I don’t know whether I want it or no.
Mother: Ben!
