People cannot live without music. They listen to music, they
learn to play different musical instruments.
¢
In some ways music is language. People use it to express their
moods and feelings. Some music is happy, and some is sad. Some is serious, and
some can make people to laugh. Music in the lives of different people is
different: some compose music, some play music and others only listen to it. A
lot of people who cannot play any musical instruments love to listen to music
either at home or at a concert. Different people are fond of classical music,
chamber music, light music, serious music, jazz music and pop music.

Language. It is held in the first week of August.

Early in the 20th century Britain was described by
foreigners as “the land without music”. It is difficult to believe it now. The
people living in the British Isles are very fond of music. The concerts of the
leading symphony orchestras, numerous folk groups and pop music are very
popular. Rock and pop music are extremely popular, especially among young
people. In the 60s and 70s groups such as the Beatles, the Polling Stones were
very popular and successful. The Beatles with their new and exciting style of
singing and their wonderful sense of humour, became the most successful pop
group the world has ever known. Many of the famous songs written by John Lennon
and Paul Mc Cartney are still popular. These pop singers received a great deal
of admiration

Yesterday (The Beatles)
¢
1. Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away
¢
Now it looks as thought they’re here to stay
¢
Oh I believe in yesterday

REFRAIN:
¢
Why she had to go I don’t
¢
Know she wouldn’t say
¢
I said something wrong
¢
now I long for yesterday
¢
2. Suddenly I’m not half
¢
the man I used to be
¢
There’s a shadow hanging over me
¢
Oh yesterday come suddenly

REFRAIN
¢
3. Yesterday love was such
¢
An easy game to play

Now I need a place to hide a way

As you know Elvis Presley was the King of Rock and Roll from
the 30s to the 70s. Elvis Presley was born on 8 January 1935 in Mississippi.
Elvis Loved music. He went to church every Sunday and sang in the choir. When
he was 13, his mother bought him a guitar. In the same year his family moved to
Memphis. One day in 1954 he went to a recording studio called. Sun Records. He
wanted to make a record for his mother's birthday. The secretary at the studio
heard Elvis and she told her boss, Sam Phillips. Elvis was Sam Phillips’s dream
– “a white boy with a black voice.” Phillips became Elvis’s manager and Elvis
made his first single – That’s All Right Mama. In 1955, Elvis appeared on TV in
New York. Then he went to Hollywood and made his first film “Love Me Tender” In
the next two years he had many hit records – Blue Suede Shoes, Heartbreak
Hotel, Teddy, All Shook Up, Teddy Bear. In 1958, Elvis joined the American
army and went to Germany. When he returned to the U.S in the early 60s, pop was
not the same. British groups like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones were the
new stars. He died of a heart attack on the 16th of August 1977 in
his mansion at Graceland, Memphis. But for his millions of fans, Elvis is still
the King. Elvis could really sing. Not like these kids today with all their
electronics machines. “He was the King, man, the King of Rock and Roll”, - says
Shane Lyons about Elvis.

Musical education in schools is very important. A music lesson
is one of the favourite subject. Pupils prepare concerts for school holidays,
learn new songs, play different musical instruments. The teacher of music tells
the pupils about famous composers and teaches them to sing songs. If
children are capable and fond of music they study at musical schools for eight
years.
¢
The pupils of our school like music and can’t imagine their
life without it. Some of us like pop music. But others also enjoy classical
music. Many pupils prefer to listen to music both when they are tired, in order
to relax, and when they are happy. The others always listen to music (when they
are doing homework, reading a book, helping about the house, going to walk).
Many pupils like to dance and go to different dancing clubs. Some pupils are
studying music at specialized schools, and it 1s interesting to discover that
all of them like both classic and folk music. The children who are studying at
specialized schools can play musical instruments, such as the piano, the
accordion, the violin, the balalaika or the guitar.
