The
Way to London Sights
1.
Organization
moment. (1 min)
Teacher
says:
Good
evening, girls and boys! I’m glad to see you! Say “hello” to each other and ask
“How are you?” Thank you. Today here at European Language School we will make
a wonderful travel to the World of English.
2.
The
theme and the aim of the lesson - brainstorming. (2 min)
Teacher
says:
Look at the screen now, you can see here different
pictures and phrases. How do you think what we are speaking today about?
You
are quite right. We are speaking about “The Way to London Sights”.
3.
Phonetic
exercises. (2 min)
Teacher
says:
But
before we will travel to London let’s remember some English sounds. Look at the
screen, you can see here a short poem. Listen to me, please.
Don’t go home alone
Nobody knows
How lonely the road is.
Now all together repeat the
each line after me. ____, can you read aloud? Thank you. Can you read it in a
whisper? Who can try to read it as quick as possible?
4. Speech exercises – the warming-up activity (front-face
questions). (5 min)
Teacher
says:
I’m going to take you these papers (See Appendix 1).
Don’t look at it. Wait until everybody is ready. Don’t read, please. Ok, I’m
going to play some music. What you have to do is to write your name here in the
lines and pass it to the next person very quick because the music can stop. You
have to finish before the music stops, ok? Write your name and pass it to the
right to the next person.
Now you are going round the class asking people quick
questions. You have 1 question as an example. So №1 is Alisa. You have to
go to Alisa and ask her: Do you go to school every day? So, you complete the
information. You must talk with everybody here. Look at the person and ask the
question. Do you get that? Please, stand up and look for the person to find out
the information.
What do you think was interesting about your
classmates’ information? What did you find?
5.
New prepositions. (7 min)
Teacher
says:
Every
year you go to different countries and meet people. They can ask you to explain
the way somewhere or you have to ask somebody how to get somewhere. That’s why
it’s so important to know how to do it. Let’s watch the video. (VIDEO –
Authentic materials) [4]
You
see that to do it in a proper way you should remember some useful phrases. Look
at the screen, please. Repeat after the speaker… Do you understand the meaning
of all phrases?
Teacher
says:
Let’s
practise. I’m giving you sheet of papers. Complete the dialogues with
appropriate phrase from the list. (ex. 4 p. 18 see Appendix 2)
6.
Physical exercises. (3 min)
Teacher
says:
I
think you’re a little bit tired. Let’s relax. We will listen to a song and play
a game. Stand up, please. It is called “My mirror”. One of you should repeat
ALL the actions of the other. Don’t forget to change your role! Ready? Start! (MUSIC)
[5]
7.
Activation of dialogue speech (work in
pairs). (15 min.)
Teacher
says:
Now let’s
listen to a dialogue and try to understand what it is about (ex.15, p.54).
Then you are to discuss the content in small groups of 3 and try
to formulate the content in ONE sentence.
You see that it’s necessary to
follow a plan when you are going to ask the information. Let’s make a short
plan. Don’t forget to be polite. So, what shall we do first?
1.
Greet the person.
2.
Ask the information (destination)
3.
Clarify or specify.
4.
Thank and say good-bye.
Now let’s
see which phrases can be used… (see Appendix 3) Look them through! Do
you have any difficulties?
Repeat some phrases after me.
Now look at
the maps of the center of London (realia – see Appendix 4). You
have them on your desks. You will work in pairs. Prepare a short
dialogue. You must ask for help and explain the way to different places (each
pair has a different task) and then dramatize it.
One more
point – I have a wonderful sack with different things. Don’t look into it, take
one and use it in your dramatics. You have 7 minutes.
·
From St. Paul’s Cathedral to Tower of London
·
From Buckingham Palace to Trafalgar Square
·
From Tower Bridge to Bank of London
·
From Buckingham Palace to Peter Pan Statue
8.
Development of reading skills (work in groups). (3 min)
Teacher
says:
And
your last task for today is ex.3 p.48 (see Appendix 5). You
should read the instructions, follow them, draw your rout and then tell me
where you are at the end of your way. Work in groups of three, please. You can
get 1 point for being correct and 1 point for the quicker answer. The quickest
team will get sweet prizes.
9.
Reflection. Ending of the lesson. (3 min)
Teacher
says:
Thank
you for your work today. You work really hard. Look at the table, you have so
called “colour light signals”. “GREEN” – if you feel comfortable and learn much
useful information, “RED” – if you feel depressed, upset, frightened. You also
can draw your palm and write down on each finger how do you feel today and why?
(Use the following phrases on the board…)
Look
at the screen, your home task is to learn useful phrases by heart and be ready
to tell me the way from your house to School.
