STEVE JOBS – A GENIUS OF OUR TIME

Тип урока: Обобщение и систематизация знаний и умений.

Цель урока: Развитие коммуникативной компетенции.

Задачи:

1.     Учить анализировать и обобщать информацию.

2.     Развивать умения и навыки устной речи.

3.     Развивать умения и навыки в чтении.

4.     Формировать умения целеполагания.

5.     Воспитывать культуру общения и потребность в практическом использовании языка.

6.     Прививать культуру работы с ИКТ и необходимость их использования в жизни.

Оборудование: компьютер, мультимедиапроектор, интерактивная доска.

T: Let’s start our lesson! We will speak about successful people and how to become a successful. According to Macmillan Dictionary «Success is the achivement of smth that you planned to do or attempted to do». Every person is unique and has equal chances to become successful. But there is one common thing among successful people. They believe in themselves and understand that there is no specific formula of fame? Fortune and success. And today we try to answer – How to become successful? Look at the photos of successful people. Do you know them? What are they famous for?

Вниманию учащихся предлагаются слайды презентации с фотографиями знаменитых людей.

S1: Oh! It’s Ernest Hemingway, he was an American author. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature.

S2: His famous works are “The sun also rises”, “for whom the bell tolls”, “The old man and the sea”.

T: You are right!Besides that he was a famous journalist.

S3: It’s Evgeniy Plushenko. He is the Russian King of Ice and the best figure skater.

T: Agree with you. He is the only male figure skater n the modern history of the sport who have won 4 Olimpic medals competing in 4 Olympics.

S4: This is Michael Jackson. He was an American singer, songwriter,dancer, actor, called the King of Pop.

T: Right, he is a global figure in popular culture. All people in the world know his songs “Beat it”, “Billie Jean”, “Thriller”.

T: Look at this photo. Do you know this person?

S5: Of course! This is Steve Jobs. He was an inventor. His famous inventions were the Macintosh computer, Apple, iPhone.

T: Yes, you are right! This is Steve Paul Jobs, the genius of computer technology, and today our lesson is devoted to him.

T:  We are going to read a text about Steve Jobs. But now let’s read the words and word combiations from text. They will help you to nderstand the text better.

T: Read the text “Steve Jobs” and try to find answers to the questions after reading.

-         Was Steve Jobs a successful person? Why? -         Is there anything in the text that surprised you?

Текст представлен на слайдах. Учащиеся читают по цепочке предложения вслух. Слайды сменяют друг друга.

STEVE JOBS Steven Paul Jobs was born in San Francisco on the 24 of February in 1955.

He attended Elementary, Junior and High School in California. In 1972 he entered a college in Oregon, but he dropped it out after six months because it was not interesting for him. But he continued to visit creative classes. He was not reach, therefore he slept on the floor in the friend’s rooms, returned bottles for money and got free meals.

In 1971 common friend Bill Fernandez introduced Steve Wozniak to Steve Jobs. In 1974 Jobs traveled to India and stayed there for 7 months. He changed his appeareance and wore traditional Indian clothes.

In 1976 Jobs and Wozniak founded Apple computer in the garage of Job’s parents in order to sell it.

THINK DIFFERENT It is Apple logo. Besides that there is the rainbow apple. It was created in 1977. In 1985 Jobs left Apple and founded NeXT. The NeXT Computer was introduced    in 1989.

In 1996 Apple bought NeXT. Jobs returned to the company and became a chief. Under Jobs’s guidance the company increased sales significantly with the introduction of the iMac and other new productions, for example, iPod, a portable music player.

On the 27th of June in 2007 Apple entered phone buisnesswith the introduction of the iPhone, a multi – touch display phone, which included the features of an iPod. Over the next period Jobs oversaw the development of the iMac, iTunes, iPod, iPhone, iPad which are very popularand are sold all over the world.

In 2003 Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He continued to work for Apple as Chairman of the Board intill his death. On the 5th of October in 2011 he died at the age of 56.

S6: As for my opinion, Jobs was successful person. All people in the world know him and his works. Every second person has iPhone now. The fame is the feature of success too.

T: What do you think, did he get this fame easy?

S7: I think, it was not easy way. He lived through the poverty, betrayal, nonrecognition.(бедность, предательство, непризнание)

T: Ok, it’s good answer. And what about the second question?

S8: I thouhgt that he was from reach family and did not know that he slept on the floor in friend’s room, for example. But a begin to respect him more, because he began his career in the parent’s garage.

S9: I did not know about the company Next. I thought that Jobs was in Apple all time.

Учащимся предлагается назвать качества, которыми должен обладать человек и по образцу произнести предложения.

Ex: I believe that a successful person should be industrious.

T: Now let’s play a game. Imagine you are a successful person and participate in a press – conference. You are asked a lot of questions. One of you will be Steve Jobs, who created  iPhone. And we remember his famous presentation where he went in a black turtleneck and jeans. The others will be journalists. You should ask the questions.
