Let’s summarize some material about Washington D.C. and its sightseeings: Washington Monument: Was built in 1848-1884 between the White House and the Capitol. It was named after the 1st President of the USA. Was the tallest building before the Eifel Tower. Its weight is 91 000 kg., and high is 169 meters. It is empty inside, there are 896 stairs and the elevator. Was designed by Robert Mills. (1836 - project on the picture)
Lincoln Memorial: Situated in National Mall. It was named after the 16st President of the USA. Was built in 1914-1922. There are 36 columns around its perimeter (quantity of states at the time of Lincoln's death). The names of the 48 states are on the out wall of this monument. The names of Alaska and Hawaii are on the way to the memorial. Lincoln statue is almost 6 meters high and 175 tons.
Jefferson Memorial: It was named after the 3rd President of the USA. Was built in 1939-1943. In 1947 was built the bronze statue of the President.
Theodore Roosevelt Memorial : It was named after the 26th President of the USA. The Island also called Roosevelt National Park. In the center of this island there is a monument.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial: It was named after the 32nd President of the USA. Was built on the 2nd of May in 1997. This memorial is about Global Depression, 12 year period from the history of the country. There is president’s favorite dog Falla Scottish Terrier.
Vietnam Veterans Memorial: Memorial for American solders who died and lost during Vietnam War. It consists of there parts – The Wall, Sculpture “Three Solders”, Memorial “Vietnam Women”. Was opened on the 11th of November in 1984.
Korean War Veterans Memorial: Memorial for American solders who was took part in Korean War. This Memorial consists of 19 sculptures of solders. The statues were made from stainless steel.
George Washington University: Private university in the capital of the USA. It is the biggest university in the capital and the most expensive university in the country. (In 2008 one year pay was 38 000 $ )
J.F. Kennedy Center: John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. There are 7 theaters: Concert Hall, Eisenhower Theater, The Family Theater, The KC Jazz Club, Opera House, The Terrace Theater, The Theater Lab. You can see opera, ballet, concert, movies. It was created in 1958.
