The History of a Song How all that began

This is a song A song is the simplest and the most popular form of vocal music. It combines lyrics with pleasant and, as a rule, easily remembered melody. All nations and nationalities have their own songs in their own languages.

They are so different… Songs are different in genres, style, ways of performing and other things. They can be sung by one person, a group of performers and by a big chorus. Songs can be accompanied by music or performed without it. Such style of music is called a cappella. Traditionally songs are divided into couplets which are usually followed by a refrain.

Ancient times The history of a song goes bad to ancient Greece. Hellenic poets created different kinds of music, for example, an elegy, a hymn, a drinking song, a love song and others.

Middle ages The song genre was developed in ancient times – there were created such musical pieces as canzone – a song about true and fair knight’s love; rondo, serenade – a song for a beloved woman; ballade – a song about heroic, epic or mythological event. The singers of that period were usually wondering from one place to another, performing to those who would listen and pay. They were called troubadours or minnesingers.

Modern songs Nowadays there are many types of songs. The most popular among them are: author’s or bard’s songs, folk, pop, rock, romance and many others.
