London is the capital of Britain, it is situated on the river Thames…
Whatever your interest – the capital of Britain has something for you! Every year hundreds of people come here! There are so many places to visit: famous museums, beautiful buildings, well-known towers, impressive streets and squares.
Big Ben. A lot of tourists come to see a big clock on the tower of the Palace of Westminster, called Big Ben. Big Ben is really the name of the bell of the clock. It’s called after Sir Benjamin Hall. It’s the biggest bell in Britain. It weights 13, 720 kilograms. It has a deep tone and you can hear it on the radio: ”This is the BBC. The time is six o’clock.” And then you hear the deep boom of Big Ben six time.
The Houses of Parliament The Houses of Parliament, known also as the Palace of Westminster, is the place where members of Parliament make laws. The country’s leaders speak in the Houses of Parliament. You can go on a boat from Westminster and see London from the river. You can also see Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge .
Buckingham Palace Important visitors often go to the palace. They meet the royal family inside. A lot of tourists go to Buckingham Palace. They stand outside and see the Changing of the Guards. Buckingham Palace is the place where British kings and queens live when they are in London.
The Tower of London You can see the Tower of London from the river Thames. The Tower is very old. It has a long and cruel history. The tall building is the White Tower, the oldest part of the Tower of London.
Westminster Abbey It is a symbol of England. The legend says that it was founded by St. Peter himself. We know that Westminster Abbey was built by King Edward in 1065. The coronation of all British Kings and Queens takes place in Westminster Abbey. Some famous English people are also buried here. The funeral services for Diana, Princess of Wales took place in Westminster Abbey in September 1997.
The Tower Bridge The Tower Bridge was built in 1894. It’s one of the famous bridges across the Thames. It is next to the Tower of London. It opens and ships go up and down the river. Tourists always want to see The Tower Bridge.
St. Paul’s Cathedral St. Paul’s Cathedral is one of the symbols of London. A great English architect Sir Christopher Wren built it. There are a lot of mosaic decorations. If you whisper anything on one side of the gallery, your words will be heard very clearly on the other side. St. Paul’s Cathedral is a place for many state ceremonies.
TRAFALGAR SQUARE It is a famous square in London. People name it “The heart of London” On the column in the Centre there is a statue of the great English seaman. Nelson's Column, with the statue of Admiral Lord Nelson on top, rises in the centre of Trafalgar Square. There are many pigeons in the square and Londoners like to feed them. Everybody knows that the dove is the symbol of peace all over the world.
British museum There are many interesting museums in London. The British Museum was founded in 1753. One doctor Ganse Sloan had a big collection of paintings. He gave it to the state. Now the British Museum is one of the biggest museums in the world. there are a lot of pictures ,money, medals, manuscripts, coins…
The British Museum in London has a very big library. Many famous scientists, writers and politicians worked there. Such famous writers as Charles Dickens, Bernard Show read, different books and wrote their own books in the British Library. There is a huge reading-room in the British Library.. There are more 10 million books in this library.
Parks And Gardens Hyde park Hyde Park is one of the largest parks in central London, England and one of the Royal Parks of London. It is famous for its Speakers' Corner.
Kensington gardens Kensington Gardens, once the private gardens of Kensington Palace, is one of the Royal Parks of London. You can see a famous statue of Peter Pan in this garden.
St. James's park and Green park St. James's Park is the oldest of the Royal Parks of London. The Green Park is a park in the central of London - one of the Royal Parks of London. It is between London's Hyde Park and St. James's Park.
London zoo London Zoo is in the heart of London, in Regent's Park. The Zoo is open every day of the year except Christmas Day. There are over 750 different kinds of animals: lions, camels, giraffes, penguins, tigers and monkeys.

Madame Tussaud's museum Madam Tussaud’s Life – Size Figures of Famous People. It is one of the sights of London. It’s the famous waxworks museum which has one of the largest collections of wax models in the word. Here you can meet the famous of course and the infamous: an unforgettable experience. You can meet great characters of history and art. Here actors, film stars, pop-singers, and sportsmen come face to face with famous politicians. There is a special place for the queen’s family, her husband, their children and other members of the Royal family.
